First off, what a sad tale!
Second - have the owners call April (the Somerville Animal Control
Officer), and check all the area animal hospitals by phone. Check all
of the shelters up to 3 towns away (dogs can get pretty far. Not
usually something you think of for a Frenchie, but none-the-less,
check ALL surrounding towns,3 in each direction).
After 48 hours, ACOAM = the MA association of Animal Control officers
will issue a SABER alert. See
http://www.acoam.com/home/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=55&Itemid=66
to see the guidelines.
Also contact local shelters - MSPCA in Boston (
www.mspca.org) ARL in
Boston (
www.arlboston.org), Lowell Humane Society
(
www.lowellhumanesociety.org) because they have lost and found lists
and private folk who pick up a dog will often contact the shelters.
Good luck!
