Dear Family,

I am a senior majoring in child development and psychology at Tufts University. I invite you to participate in a study, which I am conducting for my senior honors thesis. I am interested in the positive role that pets play in child development, as well as the way that families that have pets interact with each other. The study will take place at the Tufts University Medford Campus, and once you arrive, should take no more than forty minutes of your time. In order to qualify, families should have a child who is between the ages of three and six years old, as well as a family dog, as we will be asking that the mother, child, and dog all participate.

Mothers will be asked to participate in two five-minute free-play interactions with one of their children (between the ages of three and six). One of the two sessions will also involve the family dog. Each mother will need to bring her child and dog to the Medford Campus at a time that is convenient for her. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate siblings or other children, and ask that you only bring the child who will be participating in the study. Participating families will be entered into a raffle to win $100.

If you are interested in participating, please send an email to molly.c...@tufts.edu, containing your name, contact information, the age of your child, and the type of dog that you have. Alternatively, you may call (646) 369-6250 to express your interest and provide this information. Your participation is very much appreciated and every effort will be made to plan around your schedule.

Best,

Molly Crossman
