Dear Regional WASH Cluster Participants,
Please find the final version of our last WASH Cluster coordination Meeting Minutes and separate partners' progress updates.
Additionally, as per the regional DRMB and RWB deputy bureau head's suggestion, you are kindly invited to the ad-hoc WASH Cluster meeting on Thursday, 13 March 2025 (A reminder will be shared with you). Please also bring with you an update on your organization's water stress-saving intervention focus (E-water trucking, new fund, or any reprogramming commitment made by your organization and the like) focusing below action points
- Regional DRMB should share the latest list of priority woredas with the consideration of possible reprioritization of priority woredas to the WASH Cluster
- Partners are encouraged to review their ongoing projects for reprogramming life-saving activities and the government is highly committed
- Partners with planned Emergency water intervention should speed up their process and start the activity with the agreed timeline
For those planned/ongoing water trucking, Please update the attached site-level water trucking sheet before the meeting

Subject: Meeting Materials: WASH Cluster Coordination meeting, 05 March 2025
Dear Regional WASH Cluster Participants,
Thank you for your active participation and input in today's WASH Cluster Meeting, particularly regarding ongoing WASH intervention efforts on the ground. Please find attached the meeting materials, including the weather forecast. The meeting minutes will follow soon.
In the meantime, please take note of the key points highlighted by the DRMB and RWB deputy bureau heads:
Key Notes
- The deputy bureau heads (DRMB and RWB) expressed the dire situation in the region due to critical water scarcity caused by the poor performance of the last rainy season and limited reliable water sources. They emphasized the need for timely, life-saving emergency water interventions.
- According to DRMB, an estimated 1.7 million individuals in 738 sites across 84 woredas (priority 1 and 2) require emergency water intervention.
- There is a high borehole non-functionality rate, and significant boreholes are sealed after being successfully drilled, despite the high demand from the community and their livestock.
- The forecast indicates that rainfall is expected to start in the last decade of March, with below-normal to normal rainfall levels.
Geographical Priorities
- Priority 1: Entire Dawa zone and some woredas in Liban and Shabelle zones.
- Priority 2: Nogob and Doolo zones, followed by Afder and Korehea zones.
Action Points:
- Partners should expedite ongoing emergency water interventions, including short-term water trucking, borehole rehabilitation, and distribution of water treatment chemicals.
- DRMB should share the latest list of priority woredas, considering the reprioritization of the most needed areas as suggested by the participants.
- Partners should consider reprogramming developmental WASH projects and even ongoing emergency activities into highly lifesaving activities. The line bureaus are committed to providing any necessary support for this process.
- Weekly WASH Cluster Coordination Meetings will be held to closely monitor the situation over the next three weeks.
