We discussed this at the last two members' meetings, and we plan to implement it at the next Hack the Space Day on Saturday 27th May. We are running out of space for members' storage, temporary project storage, and also places for people to sit down when it gets busy. The outline plan is as follows:
The electronics test bench is barely used and it is also massive (1.1 metres deep). The test equipment on the top level is not accessible to everyone due to its height, and the worktop portion is too high to be used at normal sitting height. We propose to remove this bench all together and build a continuation of the green workbench/shelves around the corner and up to the workshop door.
The new custom made shelves/worktop will house the 3D printers. We will make custom-spaced shelves so the four TAZ 3D printers can be mounted in a 2x2 arrangement vertically and horizontally, but still be accessible. The printers currently consume the existing deep workbench bays although they only need 600mm or so depth. We will have new workbench space for the resin printers next to the workshop door (so it's easier to run extraction out of the window if we ever need it).
Above that will be more storage shelves for members' boxes etc - similar to the existing green shelves, but on the big blank white wall. The whole unit will be approx 600mm deep which will make the aisle wider or allow the main mobile workbenches in the clean room to move up a bit and make more social area space.
That will clear three bays on the existing green workbenches. One of these will have the electronics / test equipment in it so we have more space for members to actually work on electronics projects. We can also have a dedicated crafting bay with the sewing machine etc in it, and that leaves one bay free.
The exact design & coordination details will be discussed on slack in the #workspace-and-storage channel for anyone who wants to help out on the 27th.
We will also be looking at materials storage / junk that is stored at the space so please label anything you want or place it in a members' storage box. Other items should not be stored at the space.
