supported Solr versions?

Right now, VuFind is running Solr 4.2.1 – I believe we had to stop at this version due to compatibility issues between SolrMarc and newer Solr releases (at least when direct index writing was invoked). I realize that HTTP is the preferred method (and VuFind’s defaults now reflect this), but I still hesitate to totally break a feature that many people may still be using. Has any progress been made on this front? Would it be helpful for me to run some tests using the latest Solr release (4.6.1) to see what happens?

 

I bring this up mainly because I’ve just discovered a bug in 4.2.1 that is resolved in 4.4, so I’d like to upgrade!

I have actually started looking at this, and am trying to get solrmarc working with a solr 4.4 set-up right now.
