It seems this group is attracting sufficient numbers that I guess I
better start posting.

So I'm of the belief that when someone says you can't do something, I
find a way to prove or disprove them.

The nature of VJ content creation has drastically shifted in the past
4 years. We have to look at alternative means of content
distribution. What are your thoughts around small cameras for
producing stories - ie; cameras like the SONY NEX-5 (http://goo.gl/
Yhf9) and other hybrid cameras and delivering content to the web
instead of trying to get through the gatekeepers of broadcast and
getting your content out into the wild?

I'm seriously looking at paring down my gear even farther to push the
envelope so to speak - as much as I hate to say it - Tape is dying a
slow, ugly death. It means a new way of shooting editing and
archiving content.

What are other members doing to break the mold of convention and using
alternative & creative tools to produce compelling stories/
documentaries/content?

How about audio? I didn't see anything in the specs...
It would be great if these new small cameras
had 1/4" or XLR audio inputs for wireless or shotgun mics.....
just my 2 cents

Steve - I've yet to have a need for XLR/1/4" audio connectors. I
think this is a part of the idea around broadcast specs that the
gatekeepers use to preclude others on lesser budgets from becoming a
part of the Exclusive club. Yes they have their place if one has a
specific need for it, but I've used 3.5mm mini jack plugs on my
Ambient Audio TinyMic and Sennheiser G2 wireless lav setup and the
audio is outstanding.

Then again, I tend to try to to prove the the standard bearers
inaccurate...
