Hello SOLE mates!

I haven't posted to this list very often but that is about to change.  SOLE is making good progress in promoting our local, independent businesses in partnership with SBB.  Keep an ear out for our messages on WCBE and CD101 in the coming weeks, and keep your eyes open for posters and cards promoting "Think Columbus First" in local stores, restaurants, and coffee houses. Our $2 bill campaign and "round up" program to donate to SOLE will be visible in the coming weeks.

See below for two upcoming events of interest - an informational meeting on the new Invest Local Ohio fund, and an invitation to Simply Living's Holiday Open House.

Invest Local Oho? Is that even possible? Yes! ECDI – the Economic and Community Development Institute right here in Columbus, can offer you up to 3% interest and, even more important, the satisfaction of knowing that every dollar of your money will be invested in local, independent businesses in central Ohio. ECDI has established a special Invest Local Ohio fund that can begin to reverse the trend of investing through Wall Street and help us rebuild our local economy on “Main Street.” Moving your money to a credit union or local community bank is good – do it! And now you can move your CDs – or stocks if you own some – out of the global financial casino and begin investing in our community. The minimum investment is $1000. If you or someone you know is interested, consider attending a special meeting at ECDI on Thursday, December 15 from 7-8 pmLocation: ECDI, 1655 Old Leonard Ave, Columbus 43219. Steve Fireman, president and general counsel of ECDI, will be there to explain the Invest Local Ohio campaign and answer your questions. ECDI is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and the purpose of the meeting is to provide information about the fund and their micro loan programs. Chuck Lynd will also be there to represent the Support Our Local Economy (SOLE) coalition. ECDI is a partner in the SOLE coalition. RSVP to Chuck Lynd by Monday, Dec 12 or call 614-354-6172. Request more information from Chuck or email Steve Fireman. The meeting is free and light refreshments will be served.

Holiday Open House at Simply Living Is Friday, December 9 from 6 – 9 pm.The venue varies when Simply Living meets every 2nd Friday.  Our “good green fun” in December will bring us back home to celebrate the holidays at our office – all decked out with delicious refreshments and desserts.  The first 50 people to stop in will receive a copy of Yes! Magazine’s “New Livelihood” issue.  A special “White Elephant” exchange will feature recycled goodies that really are good enough to use again.  So, bring a wrapped “White Elephant” and share in the fun. Come for lively conversation with eco-friendly people, share your wishes for the New Year, and meet Simply Living’s new director, Mary Cunnyngham.  Children are welcome – special activities will be provided. We’re all about supporting local businesses, too, so flowers from Ecoflora will add to the ambiance at our Simply Living Social gathering. Location: 2350 Indianola Ave 43202. Contact: Mary Cunnyngham <ma...@simplyliving.org> or call 614-447-0296.

Happy Holidays!
