Kick back Friday May 6 for a special evening billed as The Fest
at the Crest! A remarkable line-up of local musicians includes the
Bead
People, a self-described hippie nostalgia band that features music
of the
60s and 70s; Megan Palmer, a remarkable singer songwriter who plays
piano,
violin, guitar, and is back in Columbus this weekend; Donna
Mogavero,
Columbus' own home grown, talented veteran singer songwriter; and
the Bug
Hounds, who will finish the evening with their own original songs
and
popular covers of Dylan, Beetles, and many others.
A delicious Mediterranean style dinner prepared by chef Alex Smith
will add
to the festive atmosphere, and drinks from the Crest Tavern bar are
readily
available. Admission is only $10 for the meal and live music all
evening.
Doors open at 5 pm for dinner, mixing, and browsing the silent
auction items
that include a wide variety of donated items. Hippie clothing, an
Avalon
Nine performance, a WCBE "Day Sponsor" package, books from the
Simply Living
Bookstore, gift baskets, & more will be available. A 50-50
raffle will make
some lucky winner very happy!
All proceeds from the event will benefit Simply Living, a local,
independent, nonprofit innovator serving Columbus and central Ohio
since
1992. Simply Living mission "supports individuals, families and
organizations in creating a more compassionate and sustainable
culture. We
provide opportunities for learning, leading, and community building
that
promote personal responsibility, civic engagement, and informed
action."
Earth Institute courses, workshops, conferences, eco-tours, films, a
bookstore, the WCRS community radio station, and many collaborative
projects
have influenced thousands of people related to Simply Living's Three
Themes:
Simplifying our lives, Greening the Earth, and Healing toward
wholeness.
