New to Slow Money? Slow Money was founded on the idea that local investments are essential for growing and expanding local food systems. Essentially, it’s a call to action for designing capital markets built around preservation and restoration rather than extraction and consumption. It's firmly rooted in the new economic, social, and environmental realities of the 21st century.
Slow Money Central Ohio is grateful to be working to connect local investors with local farmers and businesses that have made local food a cornerstone of their business models.
We're excited to share more details with you through our monthly newsletter!

 | | Dan and Caitlin, owners of Copia Farm |
|
Dan and Caitlin, owners of Copia Farm, were brought to farming via permaculture. Together they work passionately at Copia in creating a farm symphony, where pigs are nourished under oak-pine forests, chickens are constantly moving about the beautiful green pastures and their vegetables, perennial food forests and flowers are fertilized via the animals on-site. In turn, their soils and farm products culture healthy biology and healthy people. An ongoing project at Copia has been to create a chicken feed ration utilizing spent brewers grains from Columbus breweries. Ordinarily, these grains are difficult for breweries to handle and often get sent to the landfill, contributing thousands upon thousands of pounds of local "waste" per year. An investor from Slow Money Central Ohio was very generous to support Caitlin and Dan by funding their purchase of a mixer-grinder. The mixer-grinder enables them now to make a fresh, uniform feed to supplement their beautiful pastures, yielding a stellar local egg choice with a hard shell, bouncy, golden yolk, thick albumen, and amazing flavor. The brewers grains are a fresh, sweetly-scented, fermented whole food that their pastured chickens love. Both Dan and Caitlin are over-the-moon excited to have an extensive demand for their very special eggs! |

Where do we go from here? Scaling local and sustainable food production is critical if the local food movement is going to thrive. Slow Money investments in the form of low interest loans is one of the keys to helping local farms, and businesses who support them, grow their businesses and make local and sustainable foods available to all. Come join us!
