Hi,

We have recently been working diligently with the soldercore product and are very pleased with it. We are using it in a custom controller project that we are attempting to eventually bring to market. After doing a bit of research, we are a bit concerned as to the overall status of the product but really only based on the soldercore website and google searches. It seems like this forum is not really active at all. This may be due to everyone that has purchased this unit is completely competent with all its features and abilities and no one has any questions. Based on other embedded forums that we look at, this one seems extremely quite. (This could be a good thing, I guess) I may also not know if there are any other forums or user groups other than google groups, so this could also be a reason. Also, the blog has a few very interesting articles in it with some information that we actually are implementing. However, this also does not seem to be very active anymore either. The live demo thing doesn't seem to be up and running, unless my mac can't seem to access it. Again, we are very pleased with the product, the idea behind this platform is exceptional, especially with the drivers that are available, overall speed, networking features, and the ease of corebasic. We want to continue becoming well versed in corebasic's protocol as there are features that are just not available in other versions of basic. We need to know if this product will continue to be supported in the long haul, especially if we are going to commit to using it in our products. I hope the staff at soldercore could let us know implicitly what they believe the future of this platform is. We are depending on this answer either way.

I do thank you for your time, and a great product.

Jim

Hi,

I'm here, and yes, we are committed to SolderCore.  Right now I don't have much spare capacity for fun things beyond getting CrossWorks 3 out the door.  We have stocks of SolderCore, there isn't a problem with that.  If there is a feature you need, just ask for it and we can try to pen it in on the roadmap.  If we do decide to change processors, what you'll see is more memory and possible more drivers, without any real requirement to change your CoreBASIC sources.

Perhaps it's all because BASIC isn't seen as a nice scripting language.  The fact CoreBASIC runs quickly and you can develop on the SolderCore seems to escape many...

Regards,

-- Paul.

Hi Jim,

SolderCore is still bumbling a long. The forum is likely to be quite as we haven't sold a huge amount and we're lame at marketing this thing. Plus, the thing is so easy to program, it doesn't require much input from us.

As SolderCore doesn't pay for my mortgage (such a shame), I do contract work and currently I'm just flat out keeping trying to keep customers happy... given the choice I would much prefer to be working on SolderCore full time. I have a couple of ideas I want  to blog about, but they require some new, hard to implement features in CoreBASIC.

The live demo is down, and will be for a another couple of weeks. It runs from my house, which is currently full of builders and painters, so I disconnected it to save it from damage. Once they've gone I'll set it up again.

I have no short term plans to release any new custom processor boards but I do have schematics for more shields and sensor breakout boards.
Long term, I would like to get SolderCore running on a much more power efficient processor (EFM32 etc) for deeply embedded battery powered wireless gadgets. I need buy in from Paul on this...

Paul is currently deep in CrossWorks 3 territory but expects to be back on CoreBASIC "soon".

So to summarise, we're here for the long term and expect new blogs and new firmware releases soon.

Kind Regards

Iain

HTTPS is an interesting topic.  One that wouldn't scratch the surface of the problems by Monday.

It will come, it's a requirement for the CrossWorks Network Stack...
