Intalling QGIS

Hey gang -

I've been trying to install QGIS, and it has been an obstacle course so far.

* The download site says not to use the installer, but MacPorts

* MacPorts seems extremely complex to install and use (compared to, say, HomeBrew)

* I installed MacPorts using the installer for the latest MacOS (Sequoia) because all the advice about migrating resulted in incomprehensible failures.

* sudo port install qgis3 +grass also failed with strange SQLite foreign key errors

* sudo port clean qgis3; sudo port install qgis3 eventually ran to completion, but took an extremely long time finding dependencies that I thought it had hung.

* Once it had found dependencies, the install failed

Error: Failed to activate pkgconfig: Image error: Can't find image file /opt/local/var/macports/software/pkgconfig/pkgconfig-0.29.2_0.darwin_19.x86_64.tbz2

Error: See /opt/local/var/macports/logs/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_macports_release_tarballs_ports_devel_pkgconfig/pkgconfig/main.log for details.

Sorry I missed this Richard! I didn't see the note about using MacPorts, and just ran it with the installer 😳 Don't think my machine's had any horrible bugs in the 24 hours since..! 🤞

The Mac .dmg installer has always worked fine for me. I'm guessing problems arise or don't depending on how much externally-linked vs. core parts of the software you are using.
