How can I activate my Soundcard ?

I have a Pro Audio Spectrum Soundcard, but I can't hear anything ! On
booting NetBSD show me that it has found it with the card settings I set.
But when I try to use progs like xwave or try to play the system-sounds of
my window manager nothing happens ! What did I wrong ??? Help me !
When I copy a wav-file to audio0 the only thing that I can hear is the same
sound you can hear when you try to play a computer-CD in an normal CD-player
!
