make installworld doesn't touch the kernel bits
Why "make installkernel" failed is beyond me.
What I would do is try blowing away /usr/obj and start again.
make buildworld
make buildkernel KERNCONF=3DMYKERNEL # replace with your actual conf
make installkernel KERNCONF=3DMYKERNEL
shutdown -r now
# interrupt reboot sequence and boot -s, unless your source and
# obj trees are accessed via NFS, in which case, come back
# multiuser, mount 'em, and drop back to single user.
make installworld

Subject: cvs build with GSSAPI
Hi all, FYI - after many sleepless nights, I've finally managed
to get a successful build of cvs with GSSAPI support on
FreeBSD. If anyone is interested, I've documented the steps
below:
************************************************
- - install /usr/ports/security/krb5 into a directory other
then /usr or /usr/local. I used /usr/local/kerberos.
- - install the latest cvs-1.11.4 as below:
./configure --enable-encryption --with-gssapi=/usr/local/kerberos
edit src/client.c and add the following:
#include "gssapi/gssapi.h"
#include "gssapi/gssapi_krb5.h"
#include "gssapi/gssapi_generic.h"
comment out #include "xgssapi"
make & make install
- - Now when you run ldd /usr/bin/cvs you'll see libkrb5.so linked in both
/usr/lib and /usr/local/kerberos/lib. Remove /usr/lib/libkrb5.so.
You'll get
a symbol error in /usr/lib/libkrb5.so if you keep it in both places.
- - add a principal for cvs/hostname@realmname
- - export you krb5.keytab file ( ktadd cvs/hostname@realmname )
- - edit inetd.conf and uncomment cvspserver.
- - kill -HUP `cat /var/run/inetd.pid`
- - Your good to go!
*********************************************
Also, building GSSAPI into cvs on Linux was very easy. cvs just linked
against /usr/kerberos/lib automatically, you don't have to build the
libs from
MIT.
Enjoy!

Subject: ichsmb0: device timeout, status=0x42 on 2.8GHz XEON
I've added a wee bit of code to lmmon so that it
can get the xeon temperature using its onboard measurement
(which is smb). This is working fine on xeon's up to 2.4GHz.
I've got a new board in with dual 2.8GHz parts, with a 533MHz
FSB. When I run the same program on it, I get:
ichsmb0: device timeout, status=0x42
and then (usually) the board locks up.
I'm running 4.7 release.
I'm doing something like:
unsigned char byte;
struct smbcmd cmd;
cmd.data.byte_ptr = &byte;
cmd.slave= 0x18;
cmd.count= 1;
ioctl(fd, SMB_READB, &cmd);
as root, and fd = open("/dev/smb0", O_RDONLY);
Does anybody have any suggestions?

Are you saying that there is some other way than courts (or violence) to
ultimately resolve things that exist only in terms of law? ie
'ownership'?
Since the concept of ownership is basically just a legal definition, then
legal means will be (leaving out violence) the ultimate means of resolving
issues surrounding it.

Ok, I found the problem, thanks to someone who wrote me privately. It
turns out that even if you put IPDIVERT in the CFLAGS for the ipfw module
Makefile, that option still has to be in the kernel config file.
This should probably be documented, since the whole process of creating
the module with the appropriate options was a little opaque to me, and
this bit escaped me completely.

I'm not sure what caused this if mount is done from root and iconv
package properly installed.

iconv tables can be preloaded by performing a dummy mount from
root. It is not clear if other components will not require root
privileges.

I'm not sure what do you mean. I tried:
1. Mounting a share from server using -Ekoi8-r:cp866 under root:
$ mount -t smbfs
//RU@WHALE/RU on /net/whale/ru (smbfs)
2. Mounting another share from this same server using -Ekoi8-r:cp866:
$ mount_smbfs -E koi8-r:cp866 //whale/movies mnt

it reports that write cache is still ENABLED ?
I wonder if the output is just wrong or the cache is still

atacontrol cap starts to report write cache as disabled.
I would very much like to write cache to really

Subject: Oddities in /var/db/pkg/*/+CONTENTS
Am I the only one where in STABLE, "make install" in ports somehow generates
bad data in +CONTENTS (especially in the ORIGIN & DEPORIGIN part) ? It makes
pkgdb -F necessary and cumbersome...

Subject: Re: php4/apache1.3 dies after upgrade-to-latest-STABLE
:: If I comment out php4 in httpd.conf everything goes ok.
::
:: I've experienced this problem first with apache 1.3.26 and php-4.2.2.
:: Then I upgraded both of them up to 1.3.27 and 4.3.0, correspondingly, but the

Someone had the same problem either earlier this month or late last month.
Check the archives and see what you can find.
