Hi all,

Is it possible to boot an ultra 5 with a pci-ide controller, not
using the onboard cmd646 chipset ?

it is not possible to boot from a regular ide controller on an ultra5,
you could boot from cdrom/floppy.... or get a symbios 875 scsi card
and boot from that.

( this is not totally true, there are some hacks to fool openboot into
booting from another ide controller, but these are evil and won't work
properly in 99% of the cases anyway. I leave googling for these hacks
up to you, you have been warned :)
