Looks like maybe you don't have the sound/video codec installed for mp4.

I think that audio for mp4 is, in fact, AAC so you need codec for that (it
doesn't come with mplayer, I think). Try installing following ports:

multimedia/mpeg4ip
audio/faad

and rebuid mplayer... Good luck!
