The printer used to work fine (usually) on my laptop (windows 7), except for some minor errors. I've bought a new laptop, and now I'm using windows 10. The printer is encountering so much more errors, I could barely make it work until recently when it is not printing at all (not even the test page). It either gives me an error straight away, or says "printing" while nothing is happening.
I've checked someone with a similar problem on the forums, and followed the steps of uninstalling the driver then connecting the printer to allow windows to automatically install a new one. But it still doesn't work.
Yes, everything in the operating system is in English. However, I'm not sure if you're talking about a certain setting, as sometimes I change things like the regional language to adjust for subtitles to work.
I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and had the same problem with my hp laser jet p1006 printer. Your answer was the solution to my printer problem! I am very grateful - I love this printer and didn't want to get a different one. Thank you so so much!
Hi. I have been trying endlessly for months to get my HP Laser Jet P1006 to work. It used to work just fine with this exact laptop and then just stopped one day. I followed your instructions but I get an error message saying "The USB drive malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it". I have tried using different (brand new) USB cables and nothing works. Is there any saving grace for this printer or do I just need to trash it? Thanks!
This old good HP P1006 of mine works fine and dandy with my other XP and Win7 systems at home. It was with new Win10 Lenovo V330-15IKB laptop when the trouble started. I did try all recommended steps from above, Basic driver from HP site, printui /s, etc. - nothing helps. HP Print&Scan Doctor says something like 'cant figure out anything, go to hell support community'.
Well I tried it all and the installation is never the issue. The latest to have the PC find the printer worked fine, just it will not print. Worked fine Saturday on Win 7... Not so much on Win 10. No problems with finding it or loading the drivers, Just will not print.
I'm having troubles installing drivers for HP LaserJet P1006 on my new laptop. The laptop runs a fresh install of Windows 10 x64 with Ukrainian localisation. Localisation seems to me the key, since installing the same driver for this printer on a laptop runnin US localisation of Windows worked just fine - the printer works. But because of reasons I need to make this drivers run on Ukrainian localisation of Windows.
When I download and start installing the recommended basic driver for my PC, the installation status goes to the "Preinstalling the driver files ..." stage, then it switches briefly to "Copying files to the hard drive" and back to "Preinstalling the driver files" a few times, and then the installator just quits with no error message.
In the C:\Program Files\ I've found HP\HP LaserJet P1000_P1500 Series folders and some files in them. Going to Device manager \ Software devices \ HP LaserJet P1006 \ Update driver \ Search this PC \ Choose driver from available on PC \ Install from disk \ Browse and then pointing it to an .INI file in C:\Program Files\HP\HP LaserJet P1000_P1500 folder gives "The system could not find a file" error.
I attempted deleting the printer from Device manager, disabling internet to prevent windows automaticaly downloading drivers and then again attepting to install the HP basic driver - the result was the same - an error.
Thank you for your guide. I followed your steps. Unfortunately, the result was the same - the installation status goes to the "Preinstalling the driver files ..." stage, then it switches briefly to "Copying files to the hard drive" and back to "Preinstalling the driver files" a few times, and then the installator just quits with no error message. The only difference that the status messages were in Russian.
Do you have any ideas what else can help?
UPD: Btw, I've tried HP Print and Scan doctor. It detects the printer, gives a prompt to download a driver, yet it's the same one you've sent me a direct link to.
Also, make sure that the printer is not connected to your PC, then click Start > Settings (Gear icon), click the Devices option and then Printers & Scanners. if you see any instance of the printer, be sure to remove it there.
P1006 printer no longer prints after recent Windows 10 update 1709 for amd64-based systems; apparently the printer driver was reinstalled when I first again tried to use the printer after the Windows update; the driver version is the same as shown on the HP page; the HP Print and Scan doctor indicates it is working but no page prints and there is no error message; test page also does not print. I plugged the printer into a different (Mac) computer and it printed just fine so the printer seems to be functional. My windows 10 system also successfully prints to a P1022 printer so printing seems to be working with other devices, just not the P1006.
It's only a matter of obtaining the right drivers to revive the printer on windows 10 and I recommend using a new user account (Administrator) to check if that works, if not, you could attempt removing the old drivers and installing a fresh copy from the Windows 10 built-in drivers using the method previously advised:
If a full feature driver from HP is not available for your printer, you must install the built-in print driver. A full feature driver for one or more Windows versions is not available for your printer, either from the CD that shipped with your printer or from the HP website.
Where is the download button? The HP print driver is built into the Windows operating system or is installed through the Windows Update feature on your computer. You do not need to download anything from a website in order to print, scan, or fax.
The only driver available is a very old one; it was installed again after this problem occurred on Nov. 29; Windows device manager tells me there is only that one old driver available for this device and that it is current. I just used your procedure yet again and it again says that the driver is current. This driver date is 4/15/13. The printer is HP LaserJet P1006. Note that this printer was used many times in the past with Windows 10 prior to doing the Windows update 1709 recently.
Basically what is happening is the job will just sit in queue and never print, even though it says it is printing. Job can also take a while to delete once it is told to. Is anyone else experiencing anything like this?
Couple things, could be the version of driver you are using, also how are you installing the printer? If you install it through the add new printer wizard are you going to \servername\printer, or are you going to start, run, \servername\printer. Have you tried installing it through the add printer wizard using local port, and then adding a TCP/IP port and typing in the IP of the printer to install.
To fix it (2x computers) I had to unplug the printer, unistall the printer (and all drivers for the HP P1006). Restart the computer. Plug the printer back in, let windows find it and fail. Then you can either use the built in troubleshooter which should direct you to the drivers from HP or you can just use the installer if you downloaded it locally.
