Configuring Sibelius 7 Sounds on my Windows 10 Upgrade to Ultimate
Posted by Douglas aka Dudlow Smardon - 06 Nov 07:47PM Hide picture A couple of days ago I upgraded from Sibelius 6.2 to Ultimate. My Sibelius 6.2 scores were all made on my Windows 7 computers and playback was by MIDI (basic) sounds. Now, my scores imported into Ultimate on Windows 10 will only play MIDI (basic) sounds, not Sibelius 7 sounds, even though Configuration on the Playback Devices Table shows Sibelius 7 Sounds is selected and, prior to playback, it shows that sounds are being loaded. While configured for Sibelius 7 Sounds, the only sound being played back is the snare drum, while the other 20 instruments in the arrangement remain silent and do not play back. If I reconfigure back to MIDI (basic) all the instruments play, but of course MIDI sounds are pretty poor compared to Sibelius Sounds. I really want to hear the scores played via Sibelius 7 Sounds.
The Playback Devices window shows Sibelius 7 Sounds is configured, under Active Devices the Device is Sibelius Player, the Type is Sibelius and the Sound Set is Sibelius 7 Sounds. Clicking Test does not result in any sound being played. The Mixer shows audio on all 21 tracks during playback. Also, I hear the proper orchestral sounds while Sibelius Ultimate is loading up.
Do you have any suggestions on how to play back Sibelius 7 Sounds? Thanks. - Doug Back to top Allthreads Re: Configuring Sibelius 7 Sounds on my Windows 10 Upgrade to Ultimate
Posted by Laurence Payne - 06 Nov 09:55PM (edited 06 Nov 09:55PM) Hide picture I'm suspecting a partial installation of Sibelius 7 Sounds. There are various 'update' installers on the Avid site. Did you download and install the full version? (It's a BIG download!)

Or just buy NotePerformer. You're going to sooner or later :-) Back to top Allthreads Re: Configuring Sibelius 7 Sounds on my Windows 10 Upgrade to Ultimate
Posted by Douglas aka Dudlow Smardon - 06 Nov 10:59PM Hide picture I bought the whole thing. I downloaded the entire Sibelius 7 Sounds file and got the successful installation message. Hmm.... Back to top Allthreads Re: Configuring Sibelius 7 Sounds on my Windows 10 Upgrade to Ultimate

Posted by Douglas aka Dudlow Smardon - 06 Nov 11:32PM Hide picture Hi Mike - Thanks for your response. I'm unpacking and installing Sibelius Sounds again. I think this may have been the problem, even though I did get the successful download message. Maybe the unpacking was interrupted (or something). Your advice is appreciated. Yes, I can see the files are 32 GB and it is again downloading as I type this on my other computer. If the problem persists I will be back after the process concludes, but it looks like it will take a while. Fingers crossed! - Doug Back to top Allthreads Re: Configuring Sibelius 7 Sounds on my Windows 10 Upgrade to Ultimate
Posted by Douglas aka Dudlow Smardon - 07 Nov 12:13AM Hide picture Many thanks, Mike, the re-download and unpacking worked just fine this time. Now, on to make some beautiful music! - Doug Back to top Allthreads Re: Configuring Sibelius 7 Sounds on my Windows 10 Upgrade to Ultimate
Posted by Douglas aka Dudlow Smardon - 08 Nov 02:19PM Hide picture Sorry to report that my Ultimate download on my LAPTOP this time is experiencing a similar problem I experienced on my desktop (above). I have downloaded all the software files three different times with the same result. The Configuration only recognizes MIDI, not the setup of Sibelius 7 Sounds.

While initializing (starting up) Ultimate I get an error window - Audio Engine error: Bad Settings

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. - Doug Back to top Allthreads Re: Configuring Sibelius 7 Sounds on my Windows 10 Upgrade to Ultimate

Next and finally, I will download/install and try to get everything operational on my studio computer. Hopefully what I have learned here will provide me with a smooth upgrade. Many thanks. - Doug Back to top Allthreads Re: Configuring Sibelius 7 Sounds on my Windows 10 Upgrade to Ultimate
Posted by Douglas aka Dudlow Smardon - 08 Nov 08:02PM Hide picture I have been trying to sign into my Avid Account on my Studio computer, so as to download my Sibelius Ultimate upgrade. In the past couple of days I downloaded onto my desktop and my laptop. My license calls for 3 computers. Is there a reason why Avid does not recognize my email password on the 3rd computer? Thanks. - Doug Back to top Allthreads Re: Configuring Sibelius 7 Sounds on my Windows 10 Upgrade to Ultimate

music using only sounds from windows xp and 98 midi download

Download File --->>> https://t.co/T6TItA7BEE

Windows 95 and 98 have their built in "Microsoft Sythesizer", that's being used for midi music playback with windows media player.
But we all know that soundcards themselves can also sythesize midi sounds. (And this is the default with, let's say, Windows 3.11)

Interestingly, that window location you suggested, does not have Microsoft Synthesizer. It only has "Creative Music Synth [220]" and "SB16 MIDI Out [330]".
I just did set up the windows again and what's also curious now is that Media Player now seems to be using only the soundcard's synth and only way for me to hear the "beautiful" Microsoft Sythesizer is to test the Music playback in "dxdiag".
Microsoft Synthesizer is still marked as the "Default Port".

There are 2 different MIDI related API available in Windows 9x. The classic WInMM and Directmusic. The Microsoft GM/GS Softsynth is only available as classic WinMM Midi Out port when you use WDM drivers. With Vxd drivers The Microsoft GM/GS Softsynth is only available as a Directmusic device (listed as Microsoft Synthesizer). On the control panel Multimedia -> MIDI part you can select what is the default Midi Out port for applications using WinMM API while in Dxdiag you can test Directmusic API. The vast majority of Win32 Midi applications use the classic WinMM API. WMP is an exception.

I wanted to bump this thread myself some time ago as last year I bought latitude CPi A366XT with intention of playing dos and early windows games on it and encountered same problem There seem to be 2 versions of latitude CPi. One with prefix D and other with prefix A - the A being newer with "beefier specs" . Old D one has crystal audio sound card which emulates both sound and music under dos and windows, and new one Neomagic media which can sort of emulate some midi but it appears that it's incapable of emulating music for dos games at all.

I was able to have sound and music in windows versions of games like Warcraft 2 or Heroes of Might and Magic 2 on CPI A. I was however unable to have any music in dos versions of these games running under windows 98se. There should be midi drivers for neomagic card which you can try to install. These should at least enable sound on dos games but you still wont have music. Maybe I'm mistaken and there is a way to play music natively but I doubt it.

You'll want to pay attention to the type you get. Many modern hardware midi modules are analogue-style synthesizers that are marketed as benefitting from having physical controls, the assumption being that people will get their 'bread and butter' sounds (pianos, strings, etc.) from their computers these days. These analogue style sounds may be exactly what you want, but even so you may want to be careful that you don't choose something with polyphony that is too limited for what you want to play.
