Dear Friends,

I'd like to invite you to the non-profit Our Task's Earth 2100 Conference on the Future of Soil and Food next Friday evening and Saturday, March 23-24Friday evening, 7-10 PM, will feature a series of workshops where participants will be able to work with food artists and sustainability chefs at Pansaari restaurant in DC (Dupont Circle).  On Saturday, from 9 AM to 5 PM, knowledgeable speakers will discuss involved and sometimes controversial issues related to the food we eat, at the Thurgood Marshall Center in DCMore information about the conference and speakers, including registration and locations, is below and also at the Conference Facebook link https://www.facebook.com/events/2079573018994246/ and at the Eventbrite link https://www.eventbrite.com/e/future-of-food-and-soil-call-to-action-tickets-37804661761 .

Our Task is a youth-led organization that puts together excellent conferences.  I've been to three Earth 2100 Conferences, and they have been very well-organized, and have featured fantastic speakers.  The last conference I attended featured Lester Brown, Founder of the Earth Policy Institute, as a keynote speaker.  (But I'm not sure I'll be able to attend the entire conference due to a possible work conflict.)

Registration

To register, you can sign up here.  The regular fee for the 2-day conference is $100.  The student/low-income rate is $70.  The regular rates for only the first day and only the second day are $60 and $50, respectively, and the student/low-income rate for the second day is $20.

Earth 2100 Conference Spotlight

Kelly Hodgins, Feeding 9 Billion

We are thrilled to welcome Kelly Hodgins, from Feeding 9 Billion, to the Earth 2100 Conference on Saturday afternoon!

Feeding 9 Billion is an initiative based out of the University of Guelph, in Canada, which offers insight, outreach, and education on issues related to food, agriculture, and hunger globally. During the conference, Kelly will lead the Feeding 9 Billion Challenge in which participants will develop innovative ideas to help fosters a sustainable food system.

This active-learning workshop is anchored in a metaphor drawn from Dr. Seuss (“imagine the places you can go”) will engage the participants via imagination and visual learning. More specifically, participants will identify problems in the D.C. community’s food system, the challenges in addressing these problems, stories of innovation, and pathways to making positive change. Then, participants will use that information to create a basic model for making change. At the end of the session, all teams will have the opportunity to present and share their unique ideas.

Our hope is that this workshop will challenge your thinking about food security and the discussions will help you to develop practice-based food solutions, which you can take back home to start implementing!

P.S. Be sure to check out Feeding 9 Billion's series of videos on the global food crisis!
