* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *Somewhere between Godsend and hoax… In the near future, voluntary carbon credits will probably be seen as paying indulgences for environmental sins… however, these purchase agreements could lead to a broader expectation of larger corporations to make such purchase agreements, which in turn could lead to a general requirement, with appropriate equity and justice adjustments, for such payments from all corporations.
It might be possible, especially in states with Climate Action Plans, for legislation to be filed to require larger corporations to make such payments if they do not meet emission reduction goals laid out in those Climate Action Plans.

“Sustainable agriculture and biological solutions provider Indigo Ag and Microsoft announced a new carbon removal purchase agreement, with Indigo delivering 40,000 tons of carbon credits to Microsoft generated through the promotion of regenerative agriculture practices by U.S. farmers.”
