Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to invite you to the SHARED Regreening Africa Cross-Country Learning Exchange on Grazing to Restore Landscapes Revenues on Thursday 13 October 2022, to be held from 14:00 to 16:15 East Africa Time (starting at 12:00 UTC; 13:00 CEST; 11:00 West Africa Standard Time; 07:00 EST).

Please register for the event here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZclf- irqDgtHtCBSIxyO7K2Q5cqQ4aw9hNk

This cross-country learning event is part of a knowledge exchange series supported by the EU-funded Regreening Africa program for which partners among science, practice, and policy in 8 countries over five years are on track to meet the ambitious goal to of restoring 1 million hectares and positively influenced 500,000 people through the integration of trees in landscapes.

This cross-country learning event will explore why grazing management in grassland and sylvopastoral landscapes remains essential to achieve long-lasting sustainability across Africa, showcase examples of how this has been done, discuss the potential for rolling this out at a much wider scale, and analyze the conflict systems that bedevil the relations between pastoralists and farmers.

We will be joined by specialists and practitioners, including:

  • Ms. Fiona Flintan, ILRI Senior Scientist with deep experience in rangelands and

    governance and a global advocate these systems;

  • Dr. Kaderi Noagha Bukari, University of Cape Coast, who has devoted his career to

    studying conflicts between those communities;

  • Dr. Chris Magero, the global grasslands coordinator at IUCN;

  • Mr. Rolf Shenton, the founder of Grassroots Trust and the inspiration behind the

    Mpanshya communal herd;

    The event will be moderated by Dr. Constance Neely and Mr. Patrick Worms (CIFOR ICRAF) who focus on the linkages of science, practice and policy to enhance productive and resilient landscape decisions. It will be held on Zoom and technically facilitated by Mr. Pier Andrea Pirani (from whom you will see further reminders once registered). The event will be simultaneously interpreted for English and French.

    We look forward to seeing you on 13 October!

    Best wishes, Constance Neely Patrick Worms
