Sharing with you this one from my batchmate Cathy Guballa, as it touches on the topic of midlife.
http://showbizandstyle.inquirer.net/lifestyle/lifestyle/view/20080601-140065/Midlife-as-a-womans-age-of-confidence
Quote from the book:

When one reaches midlife, one confronts crucial issues, like Marie Buhain, a developmental psychologist and member of MCHS84:

“If ever we are going to become who we truly are, now is the time to do it. It means letting go of many self-definitions we have made for ourselves and breaking free from those that have been handed down to us. Midlife passage is an entranceway into the deepest recesses of our soul… Allowing this transformation to unfold liberates and empowers life contained within, thus granting confidence and beauty that glimmers.”

Subject: [mchs1982] A Maryknoll Moment

Please pardon the plug but I'm hoping that this book will interest some, if not many of you.

Last Thursday evening, the Maryknoll High School Class of 1984, in partnership with Nivea, launched the book "Age of Confidence" - a collection of stories by women in the age 35- 65 group (Maryknollers all) about defining moments in their lives. I became part of this book in the capacity of Editor.  Included in the book are stories by two younger sisters of our batchmate's - Chesca Silva Bowser (of Karen Silva) and Yvette Talusan - Tomacruz (of Janet Talusan) and there is a beautiful short essay on Maryknoll co-written by Ria Yap and Sandra Concio-Deveras (of Nana Concio).

Chesca Silva writes of how it is being married to an American, and of finding herself in "Getting Back My Groove" -  "It is very importat to share one's time, resources or both. The benefit to others is good but the benefit to yourself is even better. But equally important is learning to say "no." When too much of oneself is given, the result is the depletion of one's spirit."  Chesca is both insightful and funny in her essay.

Dr. Yvette Talusan-Tomacruz, a three-time cancer survivor, in her poignant essay "On Borrowed Time" shares - "We would like to think that we can map of our future and make life-changing decsions to chart the  directions of our lives, but we have no definite and concrete plans beyond today. It's just one day at a time until the days turn to weeks, the weeks turn to months and the months turn  to years..."

On being a Maryknoller, Sandra Concio Deveras writes --"The Maryknoller as a survivor is also a traveler. She may not have a path in mind and somehow, she invariably gets lost. Or the path she chooses may not be the right one. And yes, she may not enjoy the journey with all the doubts and fears that beset her along the way. But she has faith that sooner or later, she will find her way guided by angels pointing her to theright path, be they friends, strangers or even in the for of a cloud."

Even the mother of one of our batchmates (Camille), Mrs. Norma Sevilla, who taught at the Ateneo Grade School for 43 years, writes about the wisdom she gained in "Spreading Magis."

Margie Moran, Deedee Sytangco, Girlie Rodis, Criselda Lontok, Angel Jacob, Gaby Roldan Concepcion are only a few of the 40 Marynollers who shared ther lives in the book.

Jim, thank you for remembering!  I had a meaningful and eventful birthday yesterday thanks to great friends.  It started with breakfast at Beach Cliff overlooking Ocean Beach, a walk in Baker Beach, and then off to North Beach (little Italy in SF).  Then my friend from the Philippine Consulate in SF took me to a Thai lunch near Union Square.  Dinner was with my college friend who took me to a Japanese restaurant in San Bruno.

Thank you for the gift of the "best empowering thoughts". I declare that I received them!!!!

Baci,
Reena

To my TCU friends,
Meeting you all and spending those nights with you and our guru Jim during TCU was certainly the highlight of my Philippine visit last March.

I don't know what is prompting this as it has no connection with my birthday, but I had this sudden urge to send this quote from The Alchemist:

Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself, and that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second's encounter with God and with eternity.

Thank you for your birthday greetings! Miss you all!

Baci,

Reena

Happy birthday!!!
And here's my quote for you from Robert Frost:
Time and Tide wait for no man, but time always stands still for a woman of thirty.

Oh, wait, how young are you?

Joseph - I love the quote.  Live life well. Stay in the moment. Stay in the moment. Stay in the moment.  Pay attention.  I need that. I will keep chanting that in my head.  When I start thinking far into the future, I worry and suffer. And Jim is right in saying we end up losing in that sense, since we worry about something that may not even happen, and if it does happen, we worried twice!

Hi Reena - I assume you think I'm 30? Then I take it as a compliment!
I am proudly 39! As I shared with Joseph, I discovered the fountain of youth. He he.

Hi Joseph - It's synchronicity indeed that Facebook has revealed my birthday to you.

Hi Dindo - My friend sent me that link, I encouraged him to buy "A New Earth". What goes around comes around, truly Stillness Speaks! Thanks for the sharing.

Hi Jim - Thanks for the greeting & appreciating whatever I have done to merit being called 'angel'. :-)

Joseph, there are two Joseph Cueto's on Facebook when I did the Friend finder.  Which one are you?

Jim - also found you on Facebook and invited you.
