Whilecomparing Kaspersky Total Security (KST) with Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS). One of the "extras" of KTS is the added "feature" of "Data Vaults", which "encrypts with AES256 with an effective key-length of 56bits". Obviously AES is defined for 256bits but somehow the entropy going into the key is reduced (e.g. 56 random bits fed to some KDF or SHA256 to stretch it).
I would like to know if someone has any information about the supposedly data protection feature f Data Vaults. With 56bits of security, it is well under the current state-of-art feasible limit and easily brute-forceable! Why would Kaspersky implement a feature that is by design weak? I understand that there exist cryptographic export regulations etc., but the KST Data Vaults are weak in ALL versions, not just versions that are to be distributed to restricted regions.
Moreover, even though I have the KIS version, which doesn't have Data Vaults, I found out the Kaspersky Labs Cryptographic Module (56bit) in my Program Files folder. Any thoughts as to why it got installed and if it's used anywhere?
Aside from the above, the fact that a Google search didn't shed much light into the 56bit AES situation strikes me as odd. There have been a few mentions in some websites but nowhere near to the fuss I would expect from the encryption being effectively broken. This also undermines another product, Kaspersky Password Manager (KPM). Does KPM use the same weakened 56bit AES?
The company has announced name changes and improvements to its well-known Kaspersky Anti-Virus, Kaspersky Internet Security, and Kaspersky Total Security. The upcoming transition to the rebranded software will happen on July 11, 2023. So, get ready to experience enhanced security and a more user-friendly intuitive interface!
The transition is planned to run as smoothly as possible. From July 11, 2023, active licence holders will get a notification to accept the automatic migration to the corresponding new product. Kaspersky assures that customers will continue to receive the most up-to-date security service without interruption for the duration of their subscription.
However, Kaspersky understands that some users may have specific requirements or concerns. As a result, they provide the choice of not migrating and continuing to use the current (old) products as long as Kaspersky supports them.
Although the functionalities will mostly remain the same, there is still a range of new additional features. These include advanced threat detection, privacy protection, secure online banking, and more.
The feature set depends on your subscription plan. Kaspersky Standard provides Security & Performance and the most basic Privacy features. Kaspersky Plus adds the rest of the Privacy features and an unlimited VPN subscription, while Kaspersky Premium contains all functions, plus it is the only plan including features in the Identity category.
The most existing new features in the Privacy category are Data Leak Checker (checks if your personal information is part of the latest data leaks), Devices on My Network (warns you if a stranger's device connects to your network), Private Browsing and Social Privacy. The VPN app, part of Kaspersky Plus and Kaspersky Premium plans, is significantly improved, too. These plans provide also a premium version of Kaspersky Password Manager.
Some versions of Kaspersky security software block Zoom from accessing your camera and microphone. You can allow Zoom to access your camera and microphone using the settings in Kaspersky Internet Security or Total Security.
Kaspersky Total Security for Business does more than just protect endpoints and defend complex IT estates. It includes all the features and benefits of Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business Advanced, plus security for mail servers and internet gateways.
Less effort to stay current and upgrade major product versions. Even during migration between versions of Windows, protection remains on at all times. Your security scales easily, without extensive planning required, even in mixed IT environments.
Adaptive Security identifies more threats by proactively looking for suspicious behavior on endpoints and correlating events across multiple security layers. We also protect all HTTP(S) and FTP internet traffic passing through endpoints and application servers.
Our support services have consistently achieved the highest levels of certification by both the Technology Services Industry Association and Miller Heiman Group. We offer implementation services, plus a wide range of Maintenance & Support Agreements, including 24x7, with priority response.
Delivered from the cloud or on-premises, Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business provides flexible security for mixed environments, incorporating a full stack of technologies to deliver automated threat defenses and systems hardening.
Strong encryption
By using an AES encryption algorithm that has 256 bits of key length and is NIST approved (#2980), we deliver strong encryption for your confidential information. If files or systems are lost or stolen, unauthorized users will not be able to access your encrypted data. Our encryption has also been designed to be FIPS 140-2 compliant (validation pending).
Encryption of removable media
To protect data that also needs to be transferred on removable devices, Removable Media Encryption can perform Full Disk Encryption and File-Level Encryption.
Assigning different responsibilities to different administrators
Role-Based Access Control helps you to divide security management & systems management responsibilities between multiple administrators. For example, you may want one administrator to manage endpoint security, endpoint controls and mobile security, while another administrator takes care of data encryption and all systems management functions. The Kaspersky Security Center console can easily be customized so that each administrator only has access to the tools and information that are relevant to their responsibilities.
The use of data from Kaspersky Security Network ensures faster responses to new threats, improves the performance of protection components, and reduces the likelihood of false positives. At the end of the day, superior detection rates and built-in adaptive security mean a fast response to attacks with minimal false positives. Kaspersky is the only cybersecurity vendor to have 100% ransomware protection rate in a recent AV-Test study. Align remote devices with your corporate IT security. Application controls affect both productivity (by restricting access to gaming apps or social networks, for example), and security Employees can become victims of phishing and malware on cracked apps and dubious websites, while just plugging in a USB modem, networking printer can result in sensitive data leakage. All these attack vectors, plus risk from human error, can be significantly reduced through applying granular Application, Web and Device controls.
The integration available in Kaspersky Total Security for Business also protects Microsoft Office 365 collaboration and file sharing, and helps prevent PII (Personal Identification Information) leakage.
The job has always been hard, but now the level of complexity across the network and connected devices seems out of control. There is often frustration over the lack of resources, shrinking budgets, and users who take your policies to the limit. Once stationary, data has now migrated across multiple systems, smartphones and tablets and is often located in coffee shops, airplanes and left behind in taxis. And of course, application patching to stop vulnerabilities has become a fulltime job (that is if you can ever really know which applications are being used). This complexity has forced some organizations to make security compromises.
You need a new, uncomplicated way to deal with these changes and threats
Administrators can see, control and protect their IT environment with Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business. Tools and technologies are uniquely balanced across progressive tiers to meet your evolving security and IT needs. Kaspersky can make your job easier.
The 2022 version of Kaspersky Total Security offers a host of features, including antivirus and anti-phishing protection, ad blocking and private browsing, webcam spying protection, a VPN, a child locator with parental controls, screen time management, and a password manager.
Trying to install Kaspersky Total Security for the Mac is an exercise in frustration. Installing the Windows version is quick and easy. Not so on the Mac. Mac users have to download and install the Internet Security product and then download and install the password manager and Safe Kids tools as separate apps. The process itself is unclear, and I had to call Kaspersky tech support three times before someone correctly explained what to do.
Once you get past the installation woes, the product itself is robust and effective. Based on 2021 testing for anti-virus products, Kaspersky received top marks for protection, performance, and usability from AV-Test and solid grades from AV Comparatives. The product also was rated the best antivirus software for 2022 from Security.org.
The software provides real-time scanning and protection for malware, network attacks, phishing attacks, and attempts to obtain financial data. A Safe Money feature protects your credentials when you shop or bank online. Any malicious items are automatically quarantined for your review.
Offering a secure tunnel to browse the web more privately, the included VPN is easy to configure and runs in the background. The VPN will analyze each Wi-Fi network you try to access. Upon detecting an unsecured connection, it can turn on automatically or prompt you to enable it manually.
