It was interesting that he seems to assume carefully-rational-thought is the default and metaphorical reasoning is just a shortcut. I think Lakoff and Johnson would think that backwards.
(Watch out for Brooks: most everything he writes builds to the conclusion that existing power relationships are swell and should be reinforced.)
