Initially Jason Gorman and me got in a discussion over twitter. Here's the
initial short conversation:
JG: If dotcoms had some sense of shame, rushed and buggy releases might be less
common
MG: Word. If customers would be more demanding, software bugs would be illegal.
JG: Maybe we all need to pool our resources and launch an awareness campaign?
Maybe have a "software craftsmanship week"
MG: That sounds awful. Next week?
JG: I've got a dinner thing next week. Could we make it the week after? ;-)

Now, that next week has past, and we didn't yet get it started. I think anyone
from this list should join in, as their time permits of course. Personally, I
would like to have this run next week, starting from Monday, May 9th, with a
blog entry each day on craftsmanship, development and testing.

Opinions?

Kind regards
Markus Gaertner

Excellent initiative. It is hard enough for me to blog once a month
normally, let alone once a day when I have multiple assignments to do
and exams around the corner, but I will take the opportunity to raise
awareness with my team members. I might even spam them with links to
blog postings etc.

We need a hashtag or something so we can find tweets and blog posts
associated with it.

What about existing posts that touch on these topics as well. It is
going to be a push, but I have three posts I can get out next week and
I can select two old ones to tweet on the off days.

I think a coordinated effort would a go a long way toward getting the
word out. So the week would start on Monday, May 10, and run to
Friday, May 14?

Oh, it's May 10th. Monday to Friday sounds fine with me. What about a common
hashtag regarding blog tweets? sc_week, scwk, anything else?

Kind regards

I like the idea, but it occurs to me that if someone already follows one of us on twitter or reads our blogs, then they already know about Software Craftsmanship. How can we expand outside this media and our current collective reach?

Letters to the editor's of business magazines?
Inc?
Crains?
Local Papers?

I'll volunteer to write a letter to Crains Chicago Business. What do you read? Where else could you raise awareness?

What if we go for a day and push it out a little further on the
calendar, and then work to get some of the larger companies in the
software industry to participate? Google home page change would be
amazing. Buy-in from Microsoft, Apple, etc. Not sure what the
likelihood of success is, but who doesn't want to be aligned with high
quality software?

Awesome idea here guys.

Consider what the Django team did as Django Advent. A post a day for
20 days on all the new Django release.

http://djangoadvent.com/

Could we pull together something like that? 7 articles @ 1 / day ?
