Hello All,

There is a full-day conference next week on technology
entrepreneurship that I thought you might want to check out. The main
focus of the conference is to bring together entrepreneurs,
technologists, and investors to sort out the state technology
entrepreneurship in Alaska.

Something that may be of particular interest to you is a talk by Mike
Devlin, who founded Rational Software (think Rational Rose, Rational
Unified Process, etc) in 1981. His bio is below.

The conference is on October 29th, 2009 from 8:30am to 4:30pm at the
Downtown Marriott. Registration is $30. Here is a link to the
registration form, agenda, and more details:

Take care,
Jeremiah

** Mike Devlin Bio **

Michael founded Dangerous Passage Productions in 2006 and built a post-
production studio in Anchorage, Alaska and Forest Hill, CA and
equipped a 74’ Viking Sport-fisher (Strider) to serve as a mobile
production and post-production studio through out South Central Alaska
producing high quality documentaries. Although relatively new to this
business, Mike has quickly achieved a reputation for producing premium
programming that had never before been possible to produce. Mike
recently produced Icy Killers:Alaska’s Salmon Sharks for the National
Geographic Channel. He is currently in production on An Accidental
Quest for Enlightenment (Dramatic Theatrical), Alaska’s Jewel: Prince
Williams Sound and The Invisible Sea: 3D (IMAX Documentary). In order
to expand story telling opportunities and accelerate growth, Mike
merged Dangerous Passage Productions with Evergreen Films in January
of 2009.

Mike attended USAF Academy and graduated valedictorian of the class of
1977 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a B.S. in Computer
Science. He was awarded a National Science Foundation Fellowship to
Stanford University and graduated in 1978 with a M.S. in Computer
Science.

After founding Rational Software (originally Rational Machines) in
1981, the company quickly grew to 4,000 people and over $800 million
in revenue. Rational was founded on the (at the time revolutionary)
concept that every sector of the economy would become increasingly
dependent on software and that software tools and methods would become
the linchpin technologies in a post-industrial economy. We believed a
quality company committed to customer success could have a huge impact
by delivering advanced software systems and products. Rational grew to
be the dominant company in this market and was eventually acquired by
IBM in 2003. Michael remained at IBM through 2005 to ensure that
Rational was fully integrated into IBM.
