Dear all,

As Kiribati and Aotearoa New Zealand welcome the new Day (and with many friends and colleagues gathered at iPRES 2025), celebrations are already underway.
This year’s theme, Why Preserve?, invites us to reflect on why digital preservation matters, which diverse reasons we have as a community to preserve our digital collections, and to share our stories with the world.
We’re kicking off WDPD2025 with an opening blog from William Kilbride, Executive Director at the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC), tracing the history and purpose of WDPD.
Throughout World Digital Preservation Day 2025 you can look forward to:
• A flurry of blogs and vlogs
• A new version of the Global Bit List of Endangered Digital Species
• Fresh translations of DPC resources
• And loads of WDPD activity from around the world!
Thank you to everyone already contributing. Your stories, events, and messages help make WDPD a truly global moment of awareness. Do keep an eye on the DPC website as the Day unfolds — there’s plenty more to come.
Please join the celebrations via #WDPD2025 and #WhyPreserve across LinkedIn, digipres.club, and Bluesky. Happy World Digital Preservation Day!

apologies for cross-posting
