Skilled staff are the core of any successful digital preservation endeavour. An organization may have all the policy and processes in the world, but without people to implement them it is all for nothing. It is, therefore, important to take a robust approach
to understanding the skills needed to support digital preservation. But how do we know what skills are required? And how can these be developed and expanded over time?
This DP Clinic session will begin with a brief introduction to the DPC’s Competency Framework and Audit Toolkit, before we introduce a new community skills development resource. Developed as part of the iPRES 2024 “Start to Preserve” stream, and hosted by the
DPC, the new resource aims to provide the community with a place to capture and identify development opportunities for digital preservation (think COPTR but for skills!)
There will also be time in the session for attendees to discuss their skills development challenges and successes and to feed into continued refinement of the new resource and futures plans for DPC Workforce Development activities. Anyone with an interest in
digital preservation skills is encouraged to attend!
