Dearest SPN Community,
We invite all of you to consider nominating yourself or one of your fellow community members for SPN’s core governance body, the Coordinating Committee. The nomination form is available here and we are asking for nominations until December 16, 2025. The 2026 Coordinating Committee will consist of up to 8 sustaining SPN members and 4 at-large volunteers. Members should plan to serve on the Coordinating Committee for a two year term.
The Coordinating Committee is responsible for annual review and approval of organizational goals and strategies, providing high-level guidance to the staff on day-to-day operations for the coming year, reviewing and approving budgets, and setting steps to ensure continuity of SPN activity.
You should nominate yourself for the SPN Coordinating Committee if you’re interested in guiding and overseeing SPN’s strategic direction.
Who is eligible to join the Coordinating Committee:
The Coordinating Committee is a large body, including voting members and non-voting ones.
The majority of voting committee members are elected by the voting members of SPN from the list of formally designated representatives of “sustaining organization members” (those entities that pay dues to SPN).
A smaller proportion of committee members are elected as “at large” members with all SPN participants eligible to be nominated.
Meeting Frequency for the Coordinating Committee:
Monthly meetings at an hour apiece. Coordinating Committee leadership (Administrative Coordinator, Strategic Coordinator, and Co-Treasurers) additionally meets once a month, for a total of two one-hour meetings per month. Project groups may spin up and meet more frequently.
Information on Voting:
Voting will open in January via electronic ballot delivered through email. Each sustaining organization member may submit their votes for nominees through a designated representative, receiving one vote per organization or consortium.
Again, the nomination form is available here and nominations will be accepted until December 16, 2025.
We thank everyone for sticking with us through the transitional 2025 and we’re looking forward to 2026 and beyond. Some items on the horizon include more Community Calls, Member Forums, law & policy and emulation discussion groups, EAASI Research Alliance activities, and continued work on a resource describing software held in member (and other) institutions. If these topics excite you, consider joining us in leading SPN!
Yours in software preservation,
