I read multiple threads about this and there are a few defenders of the current setup.
So here is my question to those people, what would prevent you from zooming in as much as you like while also allowing others to zoom out and enjoy the game?

As much as I agree that the game is far to zoomed in, can you inagine the crashing and disconnects or errors if we could zoom out further? Geez, they cant even keep servers up at the mo, let alone provide a good gaming experience.

Not a server issue, that is rendered locally and the server is already aware of the actions and mobs beyond your vision.
My skeletons murder things outside the visible area all the time and who knows what drops are there that I miss etc.

One boss fight near the end of the campaign half the boss arena is obscured by a massive wall, no joke i spent half the fight against that boss staring at my glowing outline and the bosses through a wall that covered my whole screen, i had to move him to the other side of the boss arena to be able to see.

I think the developers should consider adjusting the camera angle to give players a wider field of view. This would make the game easier to play and more enjoyable overall. I understand that this may take some time and effort, but I believe it would be worth it in the end.

Dont get me wrong, Ill be still playing it,but as far as i know, only boos fights are zoomed out a bit,i cant imagine playing with 4 friends, even tho i have ultra wide monitor, they gonna be out of picture most of the time.

i saw a video where there were two players playing d4 in the same ps5 that when they moved away from each other it zoomed out to include them both on the screen. there were different degrees of zoom, I hope they put this type of zoom in the pc game too, it would be great to choose how much to zoom

The camera distance feels much too close. I often found myself trying to zoom out on the console and trying to find the correct gamepad button bindings. I have a 4K TV and it would be great to have options to choose from. I think in D3 the camera was placed much higher.

the issue is the camera is to vertical meaning it looks like you are observing the top of the head of the character when it should pan down more so you can see into the distance more like in all the other diablo games

I only play Sacred 2 with the 'follow' camera setting and sometimes would like to zoom out the view further than the game will allow. S1 had a very wide view angle which allowed you to see much more of the screen, this is what I'm looking to do with Sacred 2.

Yes he is on Ice & Blood & yes, monkeying around with the options file is probably the way to go Dobs. I could really do with poking about in it & increasing the max vertical angle you can get up to (I used to have Schot's settings & that was great, being able to get anywhere from almost on top of your character to nearly horizontal), not sure how the camera changes to Ice & Blood have affected the options file though.

Ice & Blood offers some great new camera controls which I was surprised at just how much control Ascaron built into them. Just using the ingame Options-->Game Play menu might be enough for you Dobs. I still use optionsCustom myself but that's because I want the carmera to be able to tilt all the way to the floor. It's great for making cool screenshots for the wiki.

Edit: Just found the exact settings I was looking for. Change cam1_trackdist_max = ** in the options file to 2000 and turn off automatic zoom curve in the options/gameplay settings. Hold down the middle mouse button to make the view from above and then you can zoom out really far.

I do not feel it unreasonable to have an option that greatly zooms out the camera to minimize all the action on the screen. Nor looking at providing more options to tone down effects and make adjustments to mounts.

the discomforts you mention.... i usually experience those the more the FOV slider is towards the left (lower value field of view) and is more evident on FPS/Shooter type games than on thirdperson/mmos type games... especially on a widescreen. the general idea is to play with a bigger value FOV (usually 105++ up to like 120 or 130 degrees FOV for most 16:9 screens - the gw2 fov slider all the way to the right feels like 110 degrees FOV but i could be wrong)

I'm curious how zoomed you want to be. I suffer tremendously from motion sickness, my stomach turns over in seconds from moving with the camera near my character (and don't get me started on having to watch someone else move around -- I was sad I couldn't watch much of the recent charity stream because I felt ill inside 30 seconds). Yet I have the camera set so I experience zero discomfort running around in GW2.

I have the sliders set to give myself the maximum zoom out and it really doesn't need to be extended any more. If they did extend the zoom out then there would be some big advantages to certain play styles on certain classes.

True but I somehow doubt that most of the people playing GW2 have any issue with the maximum zoom out of the camera. I mean I've been playing 6 years and I don't ever recall seeing anyone request a further zoom out for the camera so it doesn't seem to be an issue for most people.

My wife, who has played since launch, has probably curtailed the amount she plays GW2 by something like 75-80% since the Path of Fire expansion because she can't use any of the mounts without immediately becoming motion sick. No variations of the settings make the least difference. When she does play now she mostly plays WvW because mounts aren't useable there.

When there's Living World or other story content that involves mounts I have to do that part for her or she would literally not be able to complete those sections. Like me, she's been playing MMOs for twenty years and issues like this have come up maybe two or three times ever in all other MMOs we've played, on isolated events. No other MMO has ever come even close to being this unplayable for her.

It wouldn't be an issue if mounts were an optional extra but for as long as PoF has been current the use of mounts has been designed in to much of the new content and of course there has been a massive effect on other content due to the increased speed and aviodance of obstacles (meaning that, outside of WvW, it is often not practical to keep up with other players during events if you aren't mounted).

I'm not sure that an increased camera zoom distance would help but it might. The option to disable the inertia effects certainly would but since there is content designed around that physics I wouldn't expect to see any action there. I just hope the next expansion has some new gimmick that moves focus away from mounts and onto something new and that whatever it is is a lot less divisive than mounts have been.

Yes, but the forums are a very small subset of the player-base. It is unfortunate that some have issues with this, but I feel that ANet (while not un-sympathetic) isn't concerned about so few in the larger population.

I have found moving the camera center to one side of the character also helps people to feel less sick. I'm not a victim of motion sickness, but this has helped a friend in the past. (Also the "over the shoulder" style is better to target things right in front of your character, super useful when your main weapon is the Flamethrower.)

Wondering how to zoom out in Diablo 4? We've got you covered. With Diablo 4 out now, fans of the franchise continue to discuss a range of topics surrounding the game. Knowing how to zoom out gives you a much clearer view of the surrounding area and with a range of controls to master, it can prove tricky.

With this being said, there's a high chance most players will use the extended view as the only zoom out option. It allows players to get more information on their screen, which gives an advantage in both PvP and PvE scenarios.

With no way of zooming out in Diablo 4, there's no set way to perform this particular task. However, thanks to the in-game settings, you can increase your monitor aspect ratio for a better view of your surroundings.

Diablo 4 was designed with two FOV options. Adding extra settings would force the developers to adjust the UI to optimise it even further. While it sounds straightforward, it would be hard work and lead to long development hours. Combine it with the vocal opinions of the community, and there's every chance the feature is a recipe for disaster.

Previous Diablo games also didn't feature extra FOV options, another reason they won't appear in the game. Still, if zoom out is highly requested, there is a slight chance it will appear in Diablo 4 with updates.
