There is a good article about statistic of OGN activity - have a look , in english :)
https://dlapilota.pl/wiadomosci/polska/world-statistics-electronic-conspicuity-devices-technology-march-2025-2026

Hope my T-ECHO with MB176 will add some % in FANET statistics :)

Interesting article and statistics, useful to know , thanks.
It says "World", but I presume it weighted to Europe & UK?
The Pilotaware is used predominantly in the UK is it also used in Europe?
Interestingly, I am also running similar statistics website based on OGN data, but only for UK and only for Paragliders.
My stats show small increase in ADS-L , mainly through multiprotocol devices such as XC Tracers after firmware upgrades allowed them to have ADSL add-on.
The states also showing break down by device type ( based on Vendor byte prefix of 24-bit hex address)
So the 83 (8%) is accounted for SoftRF/ Opensource type of devices.

According to the article, the P3I (Pilot Aware) has been abandoned in favor of ADS-L.  Is that true?

Alas, ADS-L is actually 3 different (albeit related) protocols.  For air-to-air e-conspicuity that is a problem.

Does "Naviter" (which has become a significant part of the total) mean reporting via the cellphone network, by the Naviter "See you Navigator" app?  AFAIK it reports to a server run by Naviter, and from there the data flows on to OGN.  There are other cell-phone type reporting apps, such as IGCdroid (which can report directly to OGN), or SkyLines (e.g., XCsoar can report to Skylines, as can IGCdroid - and Puretrack can forward the Skylines data to OGN).  Are those included in this study, but are so uncommon as to not stand out in the summary?

PilotAware are not abandoning it yet, but moving towards it.
From the source in Pilotaware :
"
In order to be backward compatible to older (not yet updated systems) the way the new release works, is that it powers up assuming ADS-L mode, if it "hears", a legacy PilotAware transmission, it will turn on dual mode and emit both PilotAware and ADS-L, if it stops hearing a PilotAware emission, it will revert back to ADS-L only.
This way, we ensure that legacy systems will still hear an ADS-L upgraded system.
The new release will continue to hear PilotAware format - irrespective, so this maintains backward compatibility, whilst moving forward with the ADS-L standard

I think so, See you app has built in has built in 24-bit hex generated (prefix FE) and inserted via dstcall "OGNAVI". Some pilots are not even aware of this , when using app for purpose of Navigation and not tracking.
A lot of time we see a "FE" ghost following an FLARM aircraft. So the figures showing for Navigator are probably duplicates from other protocols like FLARM or ADS-L.
Puretrack also has own tracker app and dstcall OGPUR.
Puretrack (backend) can indeed forward traffic from other datasources too ( it needs to be configured via the user's dashboard). Not sure how it will present it as PUR or the original source?

Somewhat related to this, are there any heatmap where it's visible what protocol are used in what area's. I do mean pure radio protocols, not including things that work with mobile like SafeSky and possibly others.

Thanks.  And which of the 3 flavors (or should I say flavours?) of ADS-L is the Pilot Aware system moving to?
