Hi and thank you for activation the SoftRF Group,
I am Ben from Germany, Microlight Pilot in Rhineland-Palatinate. My Homebase is a small Gliderfield next to Idar-Oberstein EDRG.

I am new here but recently tinkered with Stratux and T-Beam.
My last on was a T-Beam with the modified SoftRF Firmware from Moshe Braner and Skyview on a round S3 AMOLED from Lilygo. Everything works good and I want to say thankyou to all guys who has done a lot of work to make all this possible.

Now my question: I want to connect the T-Beam with the S3 Amoled by wire. Is this possible with the serial Pins on both devices ? Has this everyone done bevor?

Thanks in advance for your hints.
Ben

That's interesting. It would be great if you could simply plug RX into TX.

Greetings,

Carsten

I can answer for the SkyView (LilyGo S3 AMOLED) part of question and I hope Moshe can add about T-Beam SoftRF part.
SkyView natively supported Serial connection on two protocols NMEA and GDL90 ( Stratux), (Can be selected via SkyView Settings Web-page)I never tested them.
Physically on LilyGo T-Display S3 AMOLED there is a QWiic connector ( TX:IO43 and RX:IO44). In the recent release here , I have enabled those IO pins to accept Serial connection.
You will need Qwiic pig-tail like this.

On the T-Beam there is serial output from the "TX" pin.  It is TTL level (not RS-232).  I would guess so is the RX pin on the S3 AMOLED but I am not familiar with it.  So a direct connection there should work, for one-way communication (T-Beam sending data to S3 AMOLED).  Which is probably all you need.  I would suggest a resistor (something between 100 and 1000 ohms) between the T-Beam TX pin and the cable, to protect the ESP32 in the T-Beam from possible short-circuit in the cable.

But be aware that the T-Beam *cannot* receive data on its "RX" pin, since it is also connected to the USB interface.  (So is the TX pin, but it can send data out to both USB and a TTL connection from TX.)  If you need serial input to a T-Beam, you can use the second serial port, or the alternative RX pin - see my documentation files.
