I was a long time user since it was called MyIE , but with the latest versions wanting too much control of your service and system . the constant popups are just getting worse. Sometimes it starts up in Chinese language.
All I wanted was the small and fast browser it was once , now it is just a bloated and unsafe mess.
Now has a service running that you can't disable, nags you with a deceiving popup in systray warning you may not be secure, but what it's really doing is tricking you into making Maxthon your default browser. Got rid of Maxthon promptly.
Lots of little bug fixes and improvements being made with this 5.x version. Now my main go to browser. Hope this project sticks around. My prior main browser Firefox went south on me somewhere between version 45 and 52,and not a big fan of Chrome, and Edge is still flaky, even more so with the Creators Update.
Maxthon was reported to "phone Home, China) sending personal info to who knows where/whom. Opera browser does the same thing. Not interested in pgms that do this...Turned all windows 10 report back options off as well.
Bottom Line: I was a long time user since it was called MyIE , but with the latest versions wanting too much control of your service and system . the constant popups are just getting worse. Sometimes it starts up in Chinese language.

4 1/2 stars...
Just tried out this 'Cloud' version browser this last week after having left Maxthon quite a while back. Not bad, pretty snappy. Couple somewhat drawbacks... Disqus comments will not load on a particular website, so would assume maybe some others as well, and see no way to add a list to its built-in AdBlock, so for now no Fanboy Annoyances list, thus having to put up with all the stupid social networking gadgets that so litter webpages nowadays. There is a Flashblock extension for this browser, so that's a plus, so no more autoload of flash content.
Maxthon does have a forum, and I will make a request as to how to add Fanboy's Annoyances list to compliment Easylist. If they can get that resolved, this might get 4 1/2 stars out of me.
UPDATE:..... Maxthon forum was quick to point me as to how to add Fanboy's Annoyances list. Had to specifically direct it manually to the txt file.
I used MCloud for a while as a second browser. It is good and fairly fast. Out of curiosity I tried out Maxthon 3 and found it to be more responsive and more customizable than MCloud 4. And, in my opinion a better browser, which I now use as my second browser.
Skins! I am sorry, functionality is far more important to me that window dressing. The advantage of this for me is that it works with pretty much all the business sites that I have to use, sites which cannot cope with the latest incarnations of iexplorer. It could be improved with more add on support, which is why I am marking it down slightly.
Great browser, my favorite by far. I love the built in ad blocker, spell checker, and search engine customization. It has a "download manager", which works OK but needs multi threading and sound notifications, and to minimize to the tray. Lately Maxthon has added global ad blocking rules, but stupidly took out ad filtering by clicking the offending ad. . Makes no sense at all. This release is fast and stable, and a good time for new users to try it. The portable version is great for that.
I don't understand why the gripes. This browser has no issues like Opera had in rendering certain websites. It has improved on its html5 score in every new release and is far ahead of any other browser, including Chrome. I suggest every new comer try this out at html5test.com and verify this for himself. This version also boots up and renders faster than the previous ones.
I personally would not care about skins and other small issues, which do not in any way contribute to its overall performance. I think people should be more objective and look at the package as a whole, and not trash it just because it misses some tiny little feature that they liked in an earlier version.
Fred is right. Maxthon has become a turd!. Max 2 had so many good features. Max3 took years and had less features. Now Max 4, which is the biggest turd yet, has no features. They won't even give their users the one featue that they really want. Skins. No one wants a stupid dock! They want the features that were in Max 2. Get a clue!
Just a complete mess at this point. Maxthon is possibly the only software which downgrades (removing features) for every update rather than progressing. Version 4 is worse than Version 3 was, which in turn was considerably less functional than Version 2.
works pretty good on win7 64. seems to have lots of bells and whistles that are masked behind icons, like night mode.
not sure if i will give up my pale moon however, this maxthon cloud browser is definitely a keeper.
According to the Maxthon forum this is the final release of version 3. In other words, like version 2, it's been abandoned by its developers while still in an unfinished, bug-ridden state. Absolutely ridiculous.
Supposedly we're going to hear news about Maxthon 4 soon. Some beta testers in their forum are already showing 4.x version numbers in their profiles. But based on the history of this browser, you have to wonder if version 4 will even be worth trying out at all.
Sadly it does not support either 'DoNotTrack or Ghostery which from my point of view are essentials, why not have the option to remove the side bar etc. without hunting for skins? II can see what people like about it though & will continue to try to get on with it. So mixed feelings still.
Edited:
CyberDoc999 usually makes valid points & I respect that.
Edit:
It is easily possible to remove the side bar, the bar at the bottom for me is not needed & I can't find a way to remove it, inconstancy of skins where some skins give the option to have tools having where some don't is an annoyance, though with a little messing it can be sorted more or less how I like it.
It actually reminds me off how Opera used to be years ago when it actually worked. I will be using this browser most of the time as the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Worth 5 stars if you spend a little time messing with it.
Edit:
@CyberDoc999 - Thanks for that advice, works fine :-)
Maxthon is the fastest browser .... look at the latest tests...
even complex pages take .02 sec to load....
all the other browsers took 4 or more seconds to load
life is too short to wait for the web
also change the skin to chrome and you can customize all things
like status bar and hide the side bar
Maxthon 3 is little more than a toy full of gimmick features. There have been about two years' worth of weekly releases, but it still isn't remotely close to the depth of functionality that was in Maxthon 2. The devs add one marginal feature after another (night mode, save page as app, online notepad with cloud syncing?) while ignoring all user requests in their support forum.
Still waiting for them to implement some useful -- and one would assume obvious -- features such as global ad blocking, one level up button, switch off images/Flash, etc.
I'll continue to follow the progress of Maxthon 3, but at this point I've switched to Pale Moon for regular daily use. Very disappointed in what Maxthon has become.
In a previous review, I lavished praise on Maxthon. But after a period of using Maxthon, I began to think otherwise. Yes, it's fast and page rendering is very good. However, after using it for a time one begins to see how unrefined it is compared to Chrome, Firefox and others.
You come to realize that you're stuck with a goofy side bar and a status bar you can't get rid of. You have a choice of skins, but for the most part they're simply awful. As for extensions, they are few and awful as well.
It could be an excellent browser, but little has been done to refine it and make it competitive or really useful. It seems to cater to the "bubblegum chewers" and not to main stream users.
As of now, I'll have to give it a rating of "cheap and cheesy". Having said that, I'll still be checking it out in the future.
