I have Ableton Live 11 Suite that includes Max for Live. I go to packs on their website, find granulator 2 and the download button is grayed out because it says it is already included. But when I open Max and search all of the .amxd files I do not see the synth anywhere. I even searched my entire directory. Why is this so complicated??
My approach has been to sample a small part of the original track and place it into the Granulator. I then experiment by playing on a midi and shifting the sample size. I record the entire experimentation process so I can resample the parts that interest me. I found that leaving the granulator to play out for long periods of time often produces interesting results. The granulator has been particularly useful for creating textual sounds needed for chords and melodies.
If you want to truly dive into the full effect of granular synthesis I suggest this Max For Live Density and Pulsaret by Amazing Noises. The two Granular Synthesis devices for Ableton Live (Instrument and Fx), implements respectively a sound file granulator (wav, aiff or mp3) and live-buffer granulator. This device brings out the true and spectacular nature of Granular Synthesis.
