Hello Everyone,

Greater Works!

I hope you are fine and doing greater works.

This is just reaching out to you with God's Love after a long while.

Meanwhile, Heb. 12:1, it is written,

"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every WEIGHT, and THE SIN WHICH which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us," (Hebrews 12:1 NKJV)

My question or rather food for thought is the difference(s) between WEIGHT and SIN as used in the text? Please I wondering if we could share out thoughts, comments and SECONDARY QUESTIONS.
Greater works than these!

Regards

Obindah

Dear Dcn Obindah,

Thanks for sharing this and apologies for the delay in response.

A big hello to Everyone in the house, been a while indeed.

To share my thoughts on the question raised by Dcn Obindah, I believe there might be a shade of difference between Weight and Sin. It may be said that a Weight is something which is in itself not a sin but is guaranteed to slow you down in your race. Amplified version refers to this as "encumbrance"  Message version makes it clearer and calls it "extra spiritual fat". So to consider the analogy Paul was using here which is a person running in a race, a runner is usually all muscle with little or no fat. Such that if any runner has "extra fate" he is likely to be slowed down.

A such, using performance enhancing drugs to run in a race can get the runner disqualified this can be considered as a SIN. On the other hand having "extra fat" will not get person disqualified from the race but is guaranteed to prevent the person from running to his/her maximum God given potential and this can be regarded as a WEIGHT.

Interestingly I believe what can be considered as "WEIGHT" for one person may as well be considered as "SIN" for another person. Because as the Bible says, "To him who knows to do good and does not do it, it is sin". (Jas 4:17)

Good evening everyone.
I am totally in agreement with Bro. Tomiwa.
The challenge now is to identify what it is that slows us down or is capable of doing so.
God bless you
