Hi SOC Family,
That was a nice call last night, even though it was a mini-SOC family call. So, as stated in the minutes:
The beauty of the SOC SUB Vision statement is:
  • Use to help other people understand what we want to do, can preface projects emails.
  • Helps us understand better on what we're doing and what projects we should take on.

So, what are we gonna do to get it ready for the world? (or something like that)
  • I offered to fix some of the wordiness I succumbed to ;)
  • And then send it out to y'all and you can give feedback!
  • ONE WEEK DEADLINE!!! (by next wednesday!) and then we'll put it on the Google Group main page

The statement as it stands is pasted below, but if you could edit it on the googledoc that would be sweeet!

Also, just a reminder (in case one doesn't go out)-
 - For Sprog Follow Up
  • Jon compiled a list of all the sproggers and In DC they're having a few MCSEA interns, going to be phone-banking!
  • We can give them the go ahead if some trainers still haven't gotten the ball rolling.
  • SO for all of us who are point person on a state for Sprog follow-up, we One week (!) to let them take it away, or tell Jennie if MCSEA should step in to help!

- Big List/ Our First Phonebank (20 min)
(I'm sure you'll hear more on this soon!)
   - Amanda going to finish it tomorrow
   - First phonebank next week!!! (That means we'll be calling people!) Script will go out by Sunday and name claiming should happen between now and then
-Phone-banking starts Monday (15th) and should be completed by the weekend (20-21st)!
name claim here:

Vision statement:
SOC Subcommittee provides Support, facilitates Outreach, and builds Community into the SSC mission
by assisting SSC members in meaningful ways in their Campaign and Organizational work. SOC seeks to support the SSC community by providing opportunities for peer-to-peer mentorship, and addressing the needs of activists to find a source of deep motivation. SOC creates means for emotional support that acknowledges our personal struggles and campaign support that enables us to be successful climate leaders on our campuses and in our communities! SOC incorporates outreach into SSC operations by opening channels for thoughtful and effective communication between SSC staff, the Campus Organizer or Community Coordinator, and the wider network of SSCers. SOC also facilitates regional unification through relationship-building and setting common goals.  SOC strives to help the individuals that make up the SSC to create meaningful personal roles in the campaign and organization. Lastly, SOC sees the importance of maintaining group cohesion and addressing our human need for connections. SOC works to create a sense of community within the SSC by strengthening and sustaining personal bonds and providing means for social engagement.  SOC fosters a sense of Culture within the SSC and the Climate Movement, to bolster effective team-building and mutual understanding as we all strive to be better activists and organizers.

Love!

Sorry I didn't make it to the call, I have been sick all week. I had wanted to mention to the SOC goup that if we are doing the Phonebank and telling students to call congress about drilling we should mention the Sierra Club Film "Oil on Ice" as a resource they can use on campus to raise awareness.  I talked to Adrienne Bramhall from Sierra Club Production and she said she would have some DVDs on hand to send out to students interested in hosting a film screening.

Talk to you soon,
Chrissy
