OK, y'all, sending a draft email that I think we should send to all buddies, because let's face it, they're not going to communicate with one another if we don't do a little hand-holding/encouraging :)

SOOOOO-
********************************************************************************
Hello Buddies!
We have some important updates for you-
**from this moment on, let's call this program p2p or "peer-to-peer", since in reality we've all got something special and valuable to share, and something we can learn and gain.

**this summer, we've got some really exciting developments on the p2p front. our hope for this summer is to:
1) have it be a nice leisurely yet thorough getting-to-know-you time for our lovely pilot peers (YOU!). we as SOC will send regular surveys, offer some inspiration, and check-in. and meanwhile,
2) have our amazing p2p point people spread the word on p2p far and wide (in IL, CA, NM, TX, VA, NH, WA, and OR... at SPROG!!),
3) then cap off the experience with buddy face time and a SOC HOP at Shindig (aug 9-14): so come!!
>> then at summer's end, we'll unveil/release/ignite the official P2P program, and we hope you'll stay on board as the exemplary SSC peers you are!

**what does that mean for the meantime?
>> get in touch with your peer buddy: it could be the first phone call, the 12th email, or a coffee date. everybody's different. we've got some tips on how to make it grand:

Climate Dialing
•    Hold regular, hour/half-hour-long check-ins by phone or in-person (???!!!)

some ideas on how to get the convo going (and don't feel like a dork using these/but maybe don't read them verbatim of this email):

~so what are you up to this summer anyway? what are your personal/organizing goals for this summer? (ex. learn headstand, join regional campaign to pressure Senator Sillypants about American Clean Energy Leadership bill)

~how did you get involved with SSC again? what's your best SSC memory/proudest organizing moment? (or something less cheesy)

~do you have or can you foresee any challenges this summer? (ex. how to stay involved with organizing, but still chilax)... from this, you can ask more questions/help troubleshoot. yay!

~what are you most looking forward to this summer (or maybe this fall... if your buddy is a forward-thinker).

~what are you looking to get out of this program/what are your expectations/what can do to make this work for us? (consider making a buddy pact, say "i do" heheheh, or at least find a time/mode of communication that works and stick to it!)

Pmail
•    Peer buds can also email each other perhaps weekly with an update on their summers: use some ideas from above, touch on themes you've identified... if your stumped on it, give your buddy a call and chat them up to see what those themes might be.

OR Climate Dial/Pmail Combo!

Yeah babay!!!

***********

Sampe Agreement:
I Billie Holiday, do promise to:
  • Be punctual, present, and undistracted for my friend, Ella Fitzgerald, for our dialing/pmail
  • Be respectful and honest to her, and open to constructive criticism;
  • Converse on a monthly basis (or more if it's a rough/exciting week) by technology of choice (phone. we like it old school).
  • Support, guide, and challenge one another to delegate, share responsibility, and develop others’ leadership;
  • Assist with skills such as goal-setting, strategizing, campaign planning, personal planning, self-management, volunteer recruitment, & leadership development;
  • Provide accountability to ensure follow-through with plans;
  • Help identify & address challenges and draw out key lessons by asking good questions;
  • Connect each other with people, resources, and opportunities to further their growth, development, and success.
  • Work to create a solid friendship that provides emotional and holistic support outside of running campaigns to both parties

ooooo. this is good. i think this will help buddies a LOT.

could we add a quesiton about shindig? like: are you going? do you have any ob$tacle$ in getting there? what committee do you work with/what do you hope to get accomplished with that committee (or with a new one)?

I know it's a loaded question, but i think it could help energize people about shindig if they're going, and get them thinking about what needs re-vamped, etc.
