Hey SOC!!
So Laura and I had a very productive (albeit a little lonely!) call tonight and have a plan for moving forward on approval of the mentorship program!

  • Laura has sent Cons Comm a copy of the proposal (and cc'd SOC), with the plan that they'll have until Thursday at noon to submit comment, feedback, critiques.
  • Kelsea Norris has added the Mentorship proposal to this Thursday's Ex Comm call, which Laura and I will be on (it's at 5pm EST).
  • In the meantime, we are sending Ex Comm a copy of the proposal as it stands now so they can familiarize themselves with it, and then will send a revised version after Cons Comm review period (Thursday afternoon).
So, with luck, we'll have an approved and ready to go program by the end of the week! Yay!!

All this is to say, we can start actually working to flesh out this program, which I think will entail:

-some initial outreach (email blasts, anyone??)
-sending out the form
-compiling a "guide"
-using Power Shift to get people pumped about the program!!! (tabling, sign-up sheets at workshops/breakouts, etc.)

So, these things would all be good topics to discuss on our next call... Can people commit to chatting next Tuesday (the 17th) at 7pm EST.

Please RSVP, and let us know how you feel about this plan for moving forward... we can start the conversation over email!!

I love you all and am looking forward to a big group hug at POWER SHIFT!!! Yay!!

-caroline and laura

SOC!

Exciting News- The Mentorship Program has been approved by Ex Comm!!!
Nathan had an idea that we may want to discuss incorporating into the proposal, regarding the interaction between peer groups. Nathan, would you like to send an email describing your idea, or better yet, join our next call?

Also, there was interest among Ex Comm members to contribute to the Mentorship Guide- Aaron, could you send an email to Ex Comm detailing what you're looking for, so they have a better idea?

Please RSVP if you all can make a call next tuesday- we have a great opportunity ahead of us to catapult this project forward. Let's take advantage of it!!

Love,
caroline

Hey SOCSub!

It's Chrissy. Sorry I kind of fell off the face of the planet, but I am interested in getting back involved with SOCsub and helping out where I can.  Are you all going to Powershift - because we should meet up!

Well I am super excited to hear about the mentoring program and GREAT WORK to all of you.

hi Caroline (and SOC),
I am sorry that I didn't get back to you sooner.  We had a blitz campaign fall in our laps with my campus group (1 1/2 weeks to get 1000 + signatures starting without a petition or finished proposal, but we did it and now OSU will have a Sustainable Energy Revolving Loan Fund!).... anyway I missed your call and didn't respond to this email for 8 days...

My thought was that we could create a continuous chain of connection between people in the SSC through this program.  My idea is, rather than have groups of three that only talk to each other, we pair each person with 2 others.  We can do this in a way that will create overlap between each person's mentor group.  For example:
  • I talk to Seth and Anna
  • Seth talks to Anna and Caroline
  • Anna talks to Caroline and Aaron
  • Caroline talks to Aaron and Laura
  • Aaron talks to Laura and Chrissy
  • etc...
I was also wondering if you were planning on including staff in these teams.  I think that they are all still developing and facing many of the same challenges we face.  I would like to suggest that we try to do this if it hasn't already been brought up.  It would also help create less of a dichotomy between staff and students in the SSC.

I am SO stoked about what SOC is up to!  Yall blow me away!  Thank you =)
~nathan
