Dear gardeners,
This email is sent to alert us all to some issues at the garden.
This morning, I was at the garden to water and there are several things that we must do if the garden is to remain viable.
1.When I arrived, the lock would not open. It is not clear if it is the moisture or age, but even after treatment with WD40, it did not open. The entire latch was removed and so it appears that the garden is locked but it isn't. The lock will be replaced by tomorrow, hopefully with the same combination. Please watch for emails concerning this matter.
2. Please do place the hose at the stand pipe out of the reach of passers -by when you are done using it. I walk to the second tree and gently place it there/ a bit out of sight. A little further away means that anyone tempted to be mischievous must work to get to it. The small playground is being renovated by the town and very soon our neighbors and children will also be using that space.
3. Many of us have been in and out with our summer vacations and have gotten behind the weeding. I urge you to clean up around your plot. If the aisle in your area is weed free then we did a great job in late spring. 👏👏👏. Now, please pull some weeds for -10 or 20 minutes along the fences. I pulled some weeds this am and the ground is soft and weeding was easy.
4. Please do harvest your produce. The garden is filled with beautiful tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, collards, beets and squashes. Remember that the food-bank allows for us to share with our less fortunate neighbors. Send an email or watch for John's alerts!
We have fixed the top of the gate and will have to work on the back fence which is heavy with vines and weeds and coming apart in the middle. If you have expertise to help with these tasks please contact anyone on the committee.
Issues or concerns, we welcome your feedback, questions and advice.
Hoping that we all enjoy the gifts of summer - great sunsets, lazy beach days and bountiful harvests ‼️
