Socket sentry settings.

Great plasmoid, but in your screen-shots you show a dark background
with light text. How do I switch to that scheme as it's currently
glaringly white.

The color palette is based on the active Plasma theme. To get the dark background, try the Oxygen theme.

I'm looking in System Settings > Application Appearance > Style
>Wwidget style and I am using "Oxygen", but it's still white.

Most (CWP weather for example) allow color changes in the individual
program's settings..

Try System Settings > Workspace Appearance > Desktop Theme.
