International Student Services is seeking a graduate assistant with database and web design experience. The person in this position will assist with maintaining and improving the International Student Services databases and website. They
will also work extensively with the systems’ end-users, both external (students) and internal (ISS staff). We are looking for someone who is interested in working in a multicultural environment and has outstanding people skills. The job is not limited to
technical work and the incumbent will be expected to support programming activities for international students. The position will be available beginning May 2011. The pay is $14.65 per hour and comes with a waiver of out
of state to in state tuition if the student completes the appropriate paperwork and approved as eligible through the university process for doing so.

Job description
This person will work with ISS staff to maintain key databases and website functionality. Duties of the job include assisting with the implementation of the new International Student Services Information System (ISSIS), while maintaining current International
Student Services (ISS) databases, web functionality and on-line training courses. The incumbent will be required to have a functional knowledge of on-line registration and survey systems. Other duties will be assigned to help facilitate various office functions,
and training will be provided in such circumstances.
Primary responsibilities:
Assist the Provost Information Technology Office with the implementation of the new International Student Services Information System (ISSIS), develop and maintain ISS database and web site functionality, as well as online training. Maintain and improve ISS
website content. Support ISS staff in programming activities for international students. Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed. Other duties as assigned.
Work experience preferred:
Familiarity with TAMU system, with Compass; experience or familiarity with providing services for people of diverse cultural backgrounds,
experiences and ages. Experience with working in an office setting, familiarity with the needs of international students, international travel and living experience.
Experience with training and consulting office personnel on specific procedures or applications for using the MS Office suite.
Skills required:
Knowledge of HTML, scripting languages, and high-level programming languages.
Professional experience with Classic ASP (DB connection, Form submission, etc.) and PHP or Cold Fusion
Javascript ability to handle dynamic contents (DOM, innerHTML)
Strong working knowledge of MSSQL and MS Access Database administration
Advanced knowledge of content/presentation separation using CSS
Working knowledge of web design and development tools, including Microsoft FrontPage, Dreamweaver, Adobe Flash, and Photoshop.
Strong interpersonal communication skills.
The ability to comprehend and communicate information effectively and diplomatically, both in writing and verbally, in English.
Skills preferred:
Website management
Understanding of web security
MS Office proficiency
Multi-lingual is a plus.
Hours of work: 20 (twenty) hours per week.
Duration: Minimum two semesters, with possibility to extend.
