Call for Application: Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship
Research Focus: The role of 'alternative economies' as drivers of socio-ecologically sustainable development for South Africa's rural provinces: a study of development alternatives for the Eastern Cape Province
AWARD CRITERIA
§ A PhD in Sociology (preferably with focus on environment and sustainability) or related fields.
§ Evidence of prior research and publications in DHET approved journals.
§ The applicants must have completed their doctoral degree in the last five years.
§ The successful applicant must not be in full-time employment and is expected to dedicate his/her time wholly to the fellowship.
§ The fellow shall be based in East London, South Africa, for the duration of the fellowship.
§ The value of the fellowship is R300 000 for one year.
§ The fellow must perform satisfactorily to be considered for renewal for a second year.
§ The successful fellow will be expected to publish at least three (3) journal articles in DHET accredited journals during the fellowship.
§ The fellow will report to Professor Ike Umejesi (Department of Sociology).

In addition to CV and motivation letter, applicants are required to submit a proposal of not more than 2500 words focusing on the theme: “Interfacing indigenous knowledge system, small businesses and socio-ecologically sustainable development in South Africa”. The proposal must demonstrate a good grasp of literature and social research methodology.
