Dear Colleagues,
I hope this email finds you well and in good health. I’m writing with a short update regarding some queries that have reached the office of the Secretariat for clarification:
- The office of the SASA secretariat does not handle the processing of Congress registration fee invoices thus I unfortunately cannot issue them. Please kindly communicate with the SU LOC via (
sasa2024c...@gmail.com ) for assistance regarding this. The secretariat is however aware that as of yesterday, 6th June 2024, the LOC began issuing invoices in batches per institution thus I remain hopeful this will be sorted soon. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused.
- The daily attendance fee has been published on the SU congress website, however I share it here for those who have not had access yet. Please remember to register for Congress on
link.
Conference Registration (Daily)
SASA Member for 2 July: R1 200
SASA Member for 3 July: R1 500 (including gala dinner)
SASA Member for 4 July: R 1 200
SASA Student Member for 2 July: R 700
SASA Student Member for 3 July: R 1 000 (including gala dinner)
SASA Student Member for 4 July: R 700
- We remind everyone to please remember to ensure their SASA membership fee is sorted prior to congress via our membership officer. I attach here a circular from last year with information on how to go about this. If anything is unclear please contact our SASA membership officer joi...@sociology.africa for assistance.
- There have been some queries regarding hotels and shuttle services in the area of Stellenbosch Central. As a resident in the area due to studies, I have attached a few possibilities but encourage you to do your own due diligence as you make arrangements and share a link from the LOC too

Shuttles:
e-HHike shuttle services
Accomodation: When making your accommodation booking, keep in mind that there is no public transport system in Stellenbosch. Should you not be within walking distance from the conference venue ( Arts & Social Sciences building, corner Ryneveld&Andringa Street) you will have to rely on Uber or walking(bring an umbrella if possible for rain).
PROTEA HOTEL STELLENBOSCH DORPHUIS
Bonne Esperance Guest House
Eendracht hotel and apartments
Dorpstraat boutique hotel
** These are suggestions however it is advised that you make your own decisions during arrangements**
- The SASA conference programme will be circulated via the SU LOC by the middle of June and thus I sincerely ask everyone to exercise patience in this regard. I understand some people are doing funding applications and might require more than the abstract acceptance letter and if this is the case please contact the LOC chair, Prof Khayaat Fakier for assistance.
I wish everyone the best and especially want to thank our SASA working group convenors who have once again done an excellent service to the organization by reviewing abstracts and compiling panels. I hope this answers some of the questions that have reached the office of the Secretariat and aids where possible. I am currently on sick leave and will fully attend to emails as of the 17th June 2024, however if there is anything urgent in the meantime I will try (where possible) to address it.
We look forward to welcoming you to Stellenbosch this July!
Yours in good faith,
Miss Nomzamo P. Ntombela
