The Clinical Sociology Working Group invites abstract submissions for papers, book launches, and research panels at the 31st Annual SASA Conference, to be held at the University of the Witwatersrand. Anchored in the conference theme Solidarity: Possibilities and Pitfalls, the Clinical Sociology stream foregrounds the applied, interventionist, and ethically engaged dimensions of the discipline amid inequality, institutional fragility, and global precarity. As an action-oriented subfield, Clinical Sociology is uniquely positioned to interrogate solidarity not merely as a theoretical construct, but as an ethical practice and site of struggle. Across the Global South — and particularly in South Africa — solidarity is a contested terrain: mobilised in resistance movements, strained within institutions, and tested in the face of corruption, whistleblowing, trauma, and professional risk. We welcome submissions that engage these tensions, as well as broader Clinical Sociology work on problem-solving, intervention, and applied practice.
