Couple of months ago I posted  a post card to myself just to recollect that we had post boxes and postman delivering letters home!

I think that the post card, as the humblest tool of communication in India in history, has survived the threats of digital communication beyond belief. The other example is that of the inland letter, which is still active and kicking, in the face of e-mails.

But communication has been changing its definition. For example, a Letter Box today is not a Post Box (in British English) anymore.

A Post Office Box (better understood as P.O. Box) today is a box assigned to a box in a post office where the mail to that number is dropped, and the owner of that Box number collects the mail.

There is also a confusion about the difference between a PIN code in India and a Zip code in America.

They are both the same, to the best of my limited understanding. The only difference is that a pin code is a small little thing, and does no harm in India, but a ‘Zip’ can shake the world if unzipped!

If we could follow USA pattern well it will ease if any light weight covers to be posted; there if you keep them in your letter box, they place the recd in your box and take what you wanted to post, to their post office which will reach to the receiver safely  KR IRS 28825

Claim: India Post is discontinuing its iconic red letter boxes starting 01 September 2025.

Fact: India Post has officially denied these rumours, confirming the letter boxes will remain operational. The date mentioned, 01 September 2025, actually refers to the merger of Registered Post with Speed Post, not the removal of letter boxes. Hence, the claim is FALSE.
