SAS Executive Board nominations

SAS members and colleagues,

In my capacity as SAS Past-President and head of our Nominations committee, I’m writing to encourage you to nominate yourself or others for the open Executive Board positions.

As many of you know, we hold two elections every year to ensure that our Board reflects the preferences of both the AAA Section members as well those SAS members who are not current members of the AAA. In the first round of the elections, open to all SAS members in good standing, we run contested slates for the available positions. The winner from that round is then put forward to run in the AAA elections in the spring, in an uncontested slate. Candidates who go forward to the AAA ballot will need to join or renew their AAA membership if that has lapsed. 

In 2025, we have four positions for which we are seeking nominations:

President-Elect - 2 year term, followed by 2 years as President and 2 years as Past President

Secretary – 2 year term

Executive Board Member – 3 year term

Student Board Member – 2 year term 

In particular, if you have a student who may be interested in this role but may not see this email, please let them know.  Student members are a key means by which we ensure the future health of the Society and many of our current senior executives are former Student Board Members.

Nominations will be open throughout December and will close in early January.  Please feel free to contact me at chris...@wayne.edu if you are interested in running for any of these offices and I can provide a little more information about what’s expected from each role.  If you wish to nominate someone else, provide me their contact information and I will reach out to them to confirm the nomination directly.

This is a second call for you to nominate your self or others for Executive Board positions in the Society for Anthropological Sciences.  We prefer to have multiple nominees for each open position (President-Elect, Secretary, Executive Board Member, Student Board Member).  To nominate yourself or someone else, simply email me (Stephen Chrisomalis) at chris...@wayne.edu.  And of course feel free to ask me any questions you may have. 

We hope to solidify our slate of candidates within the next 2-3 weeks and are in need of nominees for all of the positions listed below.
