SAS Members and Friends,

recently, both AAA and SfAA called for members to act in support of restoring NSF DDRIG funding. We support these efforts to maintain funding opportunities for anthropology students. Below is a copy of the email from AAA & SfAA encouraging us all to contact Congressional Representatives to promote support for funding.

If you agree, please consider joining us in these efforts to restore this essential resource.

Thank you,

Society for Anthropological Sciences Executive Board

Advocacy Alert: Restore NSF Dissertation Research Funding

The Society for Applied Anthropology has recently learned through its colleagues at the American Anthropological Association (AAA) that the National Science Foundation (NSF) has archived the Social, Behavioral, and Economics Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants (SBE DDRIG) in archaeology, and that related programs in cultural anthropology, archaeology, and biological anthropology are not currently accepting applications.

These grants are vital to supporting doctoral research and the future of anthropology.

The SfAA has written directly to the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee demanding that they reinstate funding for doctoral dissertation improvement grants in anthropology.

We encourage you to contact your members of Congress to encourage them to restore funding.

The Consortium of Social Science Associations (COSSA) has made it easy for you to contact your members of Congress with provided text. You are encouraged to personalize your message.

The more messages Congress receives, the greater the impact. Thank you for standing up for anthropology and emerging scholars.
