I am seeking three to four participants to join me for an in-person roundtable discussion about teaching anthropology courses using HyFlex designs at the AAA meetings in Tampa, Florida.

Since we returned to the classroom after the pandemic, I have taught introductory general education courses and upper-division seminars in HyFlex modalities. I think it is time to share what I have experienced with others and learn from others about their own experiences teaching students about anthropology.

Below is an initial draft of an abstract that can be adapted to include topics of specific interest to the roundtable participants concerning HyFlex teaching.

With the recent changes in higher education due to the COVID-19 pandemic, providing students the opportunity to complete coursework in different modalities has become one path toward student success. HyFlex (Hybrid-Flexible) course design combines in-person and online learning, allowing students to choose their mode of participation while fostering inclusivity, engagement, and adaptability. In this roundtable, presenters will share their experiences teaching anthropology courses with HyFlex modalities and discuss the advantages and disadvantages they and their students have experienced. In addition, these modes' impact on inclusivity and engagement will be addressed.

If you are interested, please reach out to me by Friday March 29 so that we can plan well ahead of the AAA’s deadline (Friday April 26).

Take care,

Doug
