CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

2025 ASAP Outstanding Graduate Student Paper Award

The Association for the Anthropology of Policy (ASAP) invites submissions for the 2025 ASAP Outstanding Graduate Student Paper Award. This biennial award recognizes graduate students for making innovative contributions to the anthropology of policy: a field that conceptualizes policy as a site for critical anthropological inquiry and recognizes policymaking, implementation, and critical evaluation as processes to which anthropologists can meaningfully contribute. (For more information, see ASAP's Mission Statement)

The winner is awarded $250, recognized by ASAP at the 2025 Annual Meeting of the American Anthropological Association (November 19-23, in New Orleans, LA), and receives ASAP support to publicize and promote their work to wider audiences. Winning authors are also invited to serve on the selection committee in the subsequent award cycle, a valuable opportunity to broaden their professional networks.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Applicants must be in a degree-granting program (including master’s and doctoral programs) or graduated after the previous award (i.e., 2023).
  2. Papers must be the original work of the graduate student or recent graduate. Course papers, dissertation chapters, and journal articles in preparation, under review, and recently published will be considered.
  3. Papers must be based on ethnographic research.
  4. Papers should make a clear contribution to the anthropology of policy (Refer to ASAP’s Mission Statement for further details).

Students and recent graduates are welcome to self-nominate!

To apply, please submit your paper to Kristin Skrabut (kristin...@tufts.edu) by May 30th, 2025. The email submission should include:

1. The paper attached in .pdf and .doc formats

2. A brief cover letter that describes how the paper addresses or contributes to the anthropology of policy

3. The author’s CV

Refer any questions to Kristin Skrabut (kristin...@tufts.edu), ASAP At-Large Member and Award Committee Chair.

***Please circulate widely!***
