Salvete Omnes,

I always want to build a Lararium but since I'm not good in handycrafts I never got far. Hence I would appreciate any photos and maybe building instructions ;-)

Valete optime,
Medusa Gladiatrix

Salve,

Looks nice. What is the piece in the back of the altar made of? Clay?

Salvete.

Is the back section a plaque like the one in this link?

I've one that I painted up after the lararium in Pompeii.

Valete bene,

C. Aelius Ericius.

The plaque is the replica of lararium from Pompeii. I bought it here: http://www.der-roemer-shop.de/lararium-altarbild-pompeji.html

For my part, I'm not a cultor Deorum, but I do admire the tradition and much of the Religio.  Laterensis - it's a beautiful setup; the Lares should feel well-cared for.

(Off topic:  It's humorous to me that I had to click on "show quoted text" in order to finally see Laternsis's photo!  I'm far too literal sometimes.)

I was going to add that it's a whole world of deity in itself there - Lares in the back, Mithras in the corner, and what appear to be the Twelve Dii Consentes arranged before the Lares.  Again, it's not only a pious study but also a visual (and I expect also sensual) pleasure for the supplicant or onlooker.

Salve

Thank you. Yes - I tried to arrange my lararium in the way which will work for me. Of course every person is different and then every lararium will look different. It is interesting for me that when I pray in the front of my lararium I can feel energy of Gods and also I have a sensation like I am back in time.

Marcus Aurelius in his Meditations also writes about Gods - maybe friendship with Roman Gods can really products true Stoics - or at least helps to understand more. :)

Salvete!
Ap. Iunius Laterensis S.P.D.

I would like to let you know that there is a good seller of the Greek/Roman statues of the Gods on ebay - they are replicas of the real statues which are in Athens. Here there is a link to him (he lives in Athens): http://www.ebay.com/sch/marblecreations82/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=

Personally I bought from him the statues of Iupiter/Zeus and Mares/Ares. I attach also the photo of my current lararium with them.
