Hi all,

If you're here, it's likely you offered to volunteer or help with this
April's SocialMediaCamp in some way. So... thank you!

Please have a look at the list of responsibilities below and let me
know what you'd like to take on. Nobody expects you to be an expert or
do a perfect job, and you should feel free to team up with others to
share a task.

Respond to this group to take on a task, or just ask if you're not
sure what it entails. If you can think of tasks I haven't included,
just mention it and make it yours. For example, we had someone suggest
that we should create a mobile app/site to help guide users through
the day, which is fantastic and not something I'd thought of at first.

* Sponsor wranglers
* Backchannel boss (we used backnetwork last time but I'm sure we
can do better)
* Venue scout (we have a venue already but it'd be great to have
someone make funky signs for the day as it's a bit of a maze, as well
as organise any special requirements with the venue hosts)
* T-Shirts & Stickers master
* Food czar (mostly involves sorting out cupcakes!)
* Badges & signs design artist
* Evening drinks & Saturday night happenings rockstar (TechKaraoke
maybe?)
* Video streaming guru (it'd be great to broadcast to people who
can't attend across the wolrld!)
* Event cheerleaders & promoters (we need plenty of those :) )

I'll circulate my phone number by email to all volunteers, so I'm
always around if you need a hand or have a question.

Let it begin!

Am probably able to help in some way with the below...

* Sponsor wranglers [can send out to loads of peeps and see who bites
and for how much]

* Evening drinks & Saturday night happenings rockstar (TechKaraoke
maybe?) [assume this may take a few people, but am willing to join
that posse]

Hi Vero,

There are some interesting volunteer positions. I'd love to help with
the venue, food or try my hand at some badges. I assume there will be
plenty for people to help with.

I wish my friend's Cambridge cupcake business was still in Cambridge
rather than Norwich. Her cakes are normally too good to eat and she
also does vegan ones ( http://www.thecambridgecupcakecompany.com/index.php?page=gallery
).

Regards,

Thanks guys!

Dees, you can grab the sponsorship doc here:
http://www.socialmediacamp.co.uk/2009/01/sponsoring-smclondon09/

For the evening thing, I'll ask Brett Petersel from Mashable who
always does TechKaraokes what it actually entails (beyond the obvious
find a venue & some karaoke gear) but any other suggestions for
Saturday night are welcome.

Ross, my suggestion for the cupcakes is Crumbs & Doilies who are in
London and would be able to deliver the cupcakes straight to
Wallacespace to save anyone else the challenge of balancing them on a
wobbly train. Have a look at some of their stuff:
http://www.crumbsanddoilies.co.uk/favourites.html I wonder if we could
talk them into doing the BarCamp flame in all sorts of colours? ;)

I'll give this a try, but if anyone has contacts in the hotel
industry, thinking it might be nice to see if we can get discount
rates at hotels/hostels near the venue for the out of towners. I may
also setup a mini message board to let ppl offer/request couchsurfing
for the night. What do you think?

Hopefully more volunteers will come out the woodwork over the next few
days, but thanks guys.

Hi all,

I'm interesting in volunteering for photography & video streaming.

1) Photography
* Taking photos of the talks, speakers, audience, parties, basically
everything that happens during the 2 days
* Will also try to keep a camera in a fixed location and shoot a few
timelapse sequences (to be turned into videos)
* Can take pictures of the venue/preparations in advance to put on the
site & create anticipation :)
* If anyone can contribute extra equipment, e.g. a spare tripod or
compact camera, it would be much appreciated.

2) Video streaming
* Do you guys have any preferred service? I've used ustream in the
past and it worked quite well for short talks, will try to trial it
again and see what happens.

Cheers,
Alex

Hey Vero, I'd be more than happy to help out with any dealings
concerning the venue, whether it be a runner, making signs or just
generally helping out. I've also had my fair share of experience
setting up live events: gigs, DJ-nights, stage managing etc. so that'd
be something else I'd be comfortable sorting out.

All the best, Michael.

Hi,

I am happy to help out with anything on the Saturday morning - badges
are a speciality. Unfortunately, Sunday morning is the London Marathon
(so much of the city will be shut down - just a warning...) I am
running, so won't make Saturday night or Sunday, but I would be really
happy to help with registration etc.

Ross T & Nancy - Can you two collaborate on creating/printing badges?
If you don't have printing facilities, again just shout and we'll find
someone who does.

Also, thanks for the tip off re: Marathon - i've asked some of the
Londoners and they don't seem to think the Kings Cross area should be
too disrupted on Sunday, so fingers crossed.
